Revised Use Case Point (Re-UCP) Model for Software Effort Estimation

Mudasir Manzoor Kirmani; Maulana Azad; Abdul Wahid

At present the most challenging issue that the software development industry encounters is less efficient management of software development budget projections. This problem has put the modern day software development companies in a situation wherein they are dealing with improper requirement engineering, ambiguous resource elicitation, uncertain cost and effort estimation. The most indispensable and inevitable aspect of any software development company is to form a counter mechanism to deal with the problems which leads to chaos. An emphatic combative domain to deal with this problem is to schedule the whole development process to undergo proper and efficient estimation process, wherein the estimation of all the resources can be made well in advance in order to check whether the conceived project is feasible and within the resources available. The basic building block in any object oriented design is Use Case diagrams which are prepared in early stages of design after clearly understanding the requirements. Use Case Diagrams are considered to be useful for approximating estimates for software development project. This research work gives detailed overview of Re-UCP (revised use case point) method of effort estimation for software projects. The Re-UCP method is a modified approach which is based on UCP method of effort estimation. In this research study 14 projects were subjected to estimate efforts using Re-UCP method and the results were compared with UCP and e-UCP models. The comparison of 14 projects shows that Re-UCP has significantly outperformed the existing UCP and e-UCP effort estimation techniques.

Use Case Point Method of Software Effort Estimation: A Review

Mudasir Manzoor Kirmani; Abdul Wahid

Software project management is one of the critical activities in software development process. Many software development projects fail due to poor management of projects. The main aim of software project management team is to count what is countable, measure what is measurable and prepare measurable parameters for continuously monitor and manage a software development project. One of the very important factors in proper management of a software project is software estimation. At present most of software projects developed are using object oriented technology for the development of software projects. Researchers across the globe have used object oriented technology based method known as use case point method for estimating efforts for a software project development. This research work is an effort to review different invariants of use case point method of effort estimation. The research work also highlights the importance of continuously refining the UCP method in order to reduce the gap between the estimated and actual efforts.

Designing and Implementing WBIs for Algorithms

Kavita Saini; Abdul Wahid; G. N. Purohit

Many researchers and academicians suggested that there is a need to change the way knowledge is being imparted. It is suggested that along with the traditional teaching and learning method there must be few equipments, tools and frameworks that could provide assistance to both learners and the instructors. This paper presents a framework for WBIs for algorithm learning which will be working as a teaching aid. The framework presented in this paper is aimed to offer the systematic learning of the algorithm for learners of diversified knowledge level and to provide a personal assistance. The paper also discusses the environment and attributes of WBIs for algorithm which will be encouraging interactive learning. Furthermore paper describes the various development phases, architecture and flow of the overall system and presents the WBIs development model and model which depicts the system’s flow.
