Gifted Child Quarterly | 1990

Book Reviews: An essay review of Maker, C.J. & Schiever, S.W. (Eds.). (1989). Defensible Programs for Cultural and Ethnic Minorities. Austin, TX: PRO-ED,

Abraham J. Tannenbaum

This issue’s Book Review section includes two innovations. We begin with an &dquo;Essay Review&dquo; by Dr. Abraham Tannenbaum, in which the review serves as the impetus for a thought-provoking essay on cultural bias and test bias in education and on the meaning of &dquo;disadvantaged&dquo; in the context of gifted education. We then offer our readers two reviews of Comprehensiue Curriculum for Gifted Learners by Joyce Van Tassel-Baska, John Feldhusen, Ken Seeley, Grayson Wheatley, Linda Silverman, and William Foster. Since the editor of Gifted Child Quarterly is second author of this book, we felt it would be wise to give our readers two perspectives on it. In addition, the processes of securing the reviews and editing them have been handled by the Editorial Assistant rather than the Editor. -_~ __ ~ _ -~ ~ ~ _ ~ _ ~ ~_ _ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~

Educational programs for the gifted and talented students of our country have been sporadic at best, write these authors, who after describing past and present efforts, point out what kind of leadership will be necessary to implement and sustain pro grams for these bright young people.
