Forty-six dissections of the celiac ganglion were performed on post-mortem specimens, and the form, location and nervous connections of the ganglion on both sides were studied. The triangular form was the most common observed, the ganglions were found to envelope both the celiac and superior mesenteric arteries, putting them closely together, and forming a celiacomesenteric complex similar to that found in the pig. The splanchnic nerves penetrated the diaphragm through a special triangular opening lateral to the crus, in 70-91%. These findings concerning form and nervous connections are somewhat different from those reported in the literature.

Fifty inguinal regions were dissected in anatomic human adult specimens, of which 26 were males and 24 females. The comparison of anatomic variations in both sexes showed that the distance between the public tubercle and the internal ring was larger, and the rectus muscle significantly wider in females. The diameter of the internal ring was larger in males, however, with significant variability. No differences were found regarding the presence or absence of the conjoint tendon. The anatomic variations may explain the sex differences in hernia formation.

Air within the wall of the stomach is an extremely rare situation with an obscure etiology and a high mortality (43%); only 49 cases have previously been reported in the English language. We present another case, review the relevant literature, and discuss possible-etiologies and treatment.

Fifty-four patients over the age of 40, with direct inguinal hernias were studied. Thirty-two of them underwent operation with the anterior rectus sheath flap, and 22 patients in whom the hernias were repaired by the method described by Bassini served as the control group. We could not demonstrate any significant difference between the two groups in regard to length of hospital stay, complications, and recurrence rate. There was only one recurrence in the rectus flap group. Anterior rectus sheath repair proved to be easy to perform and comfortable for the patient.

Only brief descriptions of the lienorenal ligament and the anatomical relationship between the tail of the pancreas and the hilus of the spleen have been reported in the literature. The anatomical variations in this region are of significant surgical importance. The lienorenal ligament was studied in 37 anatomical specimens. A classification of its variations is presented, and clinical-surgical applications are discussed.
