Cloud computing paradigm is a service oriented system that delivers services to the customer at low cost. Cloud computing needs to address three main security issues: confidentiality, integrity and availability. In this paper, we propose user identity management protocol for cloud computing customers and cloud service providers. This protocol will authenticate and authorize customers/providers in other to achieve global security networks. The protocol will be developed to achieve the set global security objectives in cloud computing environments. Confidentiality, integrity and availability are the key challenges of web services’ or utility providers. A layered protocol design is proposed for cloud computing systems, the physical, networks and application layer. However, each layer will integrate existing security features such as firewalls, NIDS, NIPS, Anti-DDOS and others to prevent security threats and attacks. System vulnerability is critical to the cloud computing facilities; the proposed protocol will address this as part of measures to secure data at all levels. The protocol will protect customers/cloud service providers’ infrastructure by preventing unauthorized users to gain access to the service/facility.

This paper presents an architectural model for Wireless Peer-to-Peer (WP2P) file sharing system for ubiquitos mobile devices. File sharing is one of the rationales for computer networks with increasing demand for file sharing applications and technologies in small and large enterprise networks and on the Internet. With the popularity of mobile phones in day-to-day activities, P2P file sharing in mobile phones is highly desirable, especially in 2/2.5G mobile networks. The proposed model is based on a hybrid or semi centralized architecture with the central database server acting as an interface between the mobile devices. The P2P communication model employs the Short Messaging Service (SMS) and Multimedia Messaging Service (MMS) as the messaging medium. The mobile phone initiates a search for a particular file on the mobile P2P network using a General Packet Radio Service (GPRS) connection. The database replies the “searcher” mobile phone with a list of all the available files and the details of the mobile phones that have them. Using this information, the requesting mobile phone makes a SMS connection to any of the phones provided by the database server. The mobile phone with the file then sends it to the requesting mobile phone using the MMS. We present an architectural model using mobile proxy, SMS and MMS, for a mobile P2P network for 2/2.5G networks despite operator constraints.

Several assessment studies on penetration and adoption of computer and the internet have shown that these tools are beginning to change the way citizens interact with one another and also with their governments and vice-versa [1]. An assessment from two states in the South Western part of Nigeria regarding the awareness, use and sustainability of e-Governance in Nigeria was carried out. The perspectives of the government staff as well as other users (non-government staff) were assessed. It was found that 68% of both government employees (GE) and non-government employees (NGEs) are aware of e-Governance in the states, and the governments have achieved this high rate of awareness by means of mass media (30%). Computer literacy amongst employees is put at 19 users out of every 20, and 52% of those that are computer literate have over 3yrs experience in using the computer. Also, 76.6% are reported to have access to the Internet and only 31.3% of those that have access to the Internet have access points in their offices. Proficiency about the use of e-Governance resources was also tested, it was found that about 50% of the users are proficient and about 35% of them use the Internet on a daily basis. Challenges about the e-Governance resource were also discussed and appropriate policy directions are advanced for a better use and its sustainability.

The lack of current network dynamics studies that evaluate the effects of new application and protocol deployment or long-term studies that observe the effect of incremental changes on the Internet, and the change in the overall stability of the Internet under various conditions and threats has made network monitoring challenging. A good understanding of the nature and type of network traffic is the key to solving congestion problems. In this paper we describe the architecture and implementation of a scalable network traffic moni-toring and analysis system. The gigabit interface on the monitoring system was configured to capture network traffic and the Multi Router Traffic Grapher (MRTG) and Webalizer produces graphical and detailed traffic analysis. This system is in use at the Obafemi Awolowo University, IleIfe, Nigeria; we describe how this system can be replicated in another environment.

One of the major challenges in Cognitive Radio Network (CRN) is the limitations in protecting the activities of the licensed devices from any form of interference while making an efficient use of the unused spectrum opportunistically. The CRNs required that the unlicensed devices leave the band once the licensed device is detected. The high fluctuation in available spectrum due to random behaviour of the licensed devices however imposes a challenge in detecting the unused spectrum bands. This work presents a model with the capability to predict the cognitive radio spectrum availability base on the behaviour of the licensed devices observed in southwest of Nigeria. Discrete time Markov chain (DTMC) and duty cycle models were adopted in predicting the spectrum usage. Results shows that prediction using DTMC was appropriate for channels in which licensed devices resides in one state for a long period of time before switching to another state.

Research interest in sensor networks routing largely considers minimization of energy consumption as a major performance criterion to provide maximum sensors network lifetime. When considering energy con- servation, routing protocols should also be designed to achieve fault tolerance in communications. Moreover, due to dynamic topology and random deployment, incorporating reliability into protocols for WSNs is very important. Hence, we propose an improved scalable clustering-based load balancing scheme (SCLB) in this paper. In SCLB scheme, scalability is achieved by dividing the network into overlapping multihop clusters each with its own cluster head node. Simulation results show that the proposed scheme achieves longer network lifetime with desirable reliability at the initial state compare with the existing multihop load balancing approach.

In order to avoid the undesired interference with the activities of the primary users in cognitive radio networks, the secondary users are required to be able to predict the behavior of the primary users so as to leave the channel before the arrival of such licensed owner of the spectrum. While a number of existing literatures on cognitive radio spectrum prediction employ the use of propagation curves for predicting the spectrum holes otherwise known as TV white space, these models are built based on measurements conducted in regions that are different from Nigeria, suitability in terms of usage may therefore vary due to environmental factors and terrain profile. This work evaluates the efficacy of the developed model in predicting the cognitive spectrum availability in Nigeria. Models capable of predicting spectrum occupancy in the time domain using discrete-time two-state Markov chain with an appropriate Duty Cycle (DC) model and also a modified m-bell shaped exponential equation were formulated. The result obtained in all cases considered shows that the formulated models are appropriate to be used in any environment if the parameters were carefully extracted from the data. This work has also demonstrated that the accuracy of Markov chain models depends on the level of usage of a spectrum under consideration and may therefore not give desirable results when employed in some other spectrum.

Electronic Toll Collection (ETC) systems may be adopted by city managers to combat the problems of long vehicular queues, fuel wastage, high accident risks, and environmental pollution that come with the use of traditional or manual toll collection systems. In this paper, an intelligent system is developed to eliminate long vehicular queues, fuel wastage, high accident risks, and environmental pollution in a smart city based on seamless interconnections of Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs), and web and mobile applications that run on an Internet of Things (IoT)-Enabled cloud platform. A ZigBee WSN is designed and implemented using an Arduino UNO, XBee S2 radios, an XBee Shield, and a Seeduino GPRS Shield. For vehicle owners to make toll payments, view toll historical data, and get toll news feeds, a web application and a mobile application are designed and implemented based on Hyper Text Mark-up Language (HTML), Cascading Style Sheets (CSS), Javascript and Hyper Text Pre-processor (PHP). The mobile application is deployed using an Android platform. A cloud platform was also developed to provide business logic functionalities by using PHP as a scripting language, and MySQL as the database engine driver. Deployment of the developed ETC system in smart and connected communities will drastically minimize the challenges of long vehicular queues, fuel wastage, high accident risks, and environmental pollution in urban centers.
