Determinants of Cloud ERP Adoption in Saudi Arabia: an Empirical Study

Adnan Mustafa AlBar; Rakibul Hoque

Cloud based Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems have emerged as solutions to all the difficulties encountered by conventional ERP system. It provides flexibility, adaptability, and cost efficiency. It requires low upfront investments and can rapidly be deployed. Different private and public organization in developed countries have already realized the benefit of cloud ERP and implemented it to improve overall efficiency and quality of services. However, the adoption rate of cloud ERP in developing countries such as Saudi Arabia is still at the beginning stage with not many adopters. Side by side, not much research has been done to investigate the factors that influence the implementation of cloud ERP. So, it is essential to analyze the factors that affect the adoption of cloud ERP in Saudi Arabia. This paper will examine various factors that affect the adoption of cloud ERP in different private and public organization in Saudi Arabia by combining the two widely applied IT theories such as Technology-Organization-Environment (TOE) framework and Diffusion of Innovation theory. This paper will also analyze the performance of cloud base ERP with traditional ERP systems. Avenues for future research will also be suggested.

Hyperrectangles Selection for Monotonic Classification by Using Evolutionary Algorithms

Javier Gámez García; Adnan Mustafa AlBar; Naif Radi Aljohani; José-Ramón Cano; Salvador García

AbstractIn supervised learning, some real problems require the response attribute to represent ordinal values that should increase with some of the explaining attributes. They are called classification problems with monotonicity constraints. Hyperrectangles can be viewed as storing objects in Rn which can be used to learn concepts combining instance-based classification with the axis-parallel rectangle mainly used in rule induction systems. This hybrid paradigm is known as nested generalized exemplar learning. In this paper, we propose the selection of the most effective hyperrectangles by means of evolutionary algorithms to tackle monotonic classification. The model proposed is compared through an exhaustive experimental analysis involving a large number of data sets coming from real classification and regression problems. The results reported show that our evolutionary proposal outperforms other instance-based and rule learning models, such as OLM, OSDL, k-NN and MID; in accuracy and mean absolute error...

Adoption of information and communication technology for development A case study of small and medium enterprises in Bangladesh

Rakibul Hoque; Abu Naser Mohammad Saif; Adnan Mustafa AlBar; Yukun Bao

Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) play a key role in today’s business environment. ICTs also give small firms a competitive advantage in the new economy. However, little empirical research has addressed the issues of use, impact and adoption of ICTs in Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs), especially in rural areas of developing countries. The objective of this study is to identify the impact of ICTs and the factors that influence the adoption of ICTs in SMEs located in rural areas of Bangladesh. This article follows a qualitative and quantitative research approach based on a case study and structured questionnaires. The regression analysis showed that awareness of benefits, government support, top management support, and financial support are important determinants of the adoption of ICTs in rural SMEs in Bangladesh. This article also highlights the limitations that SMEs have in using ICTs and makes recommendations on how to overcome them.

Factors affecting cloud ERP adoption in Saudi Arabia: An empirical study

Adnan Mustafa AlBar; Md. Rakibul Hoque

Cloud ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning) systems have represented a paradigm shift in the information systems domain. They can provide flexibility, cost efficiency, scalability, adaptability, availability and configurable data to any type of company. This system has enjoyed rapid growth around the world. However, the adoption of cloud ERP in developing Middle Eastern countries such as Saudi Arabia is still in its infancy, and little research has been done to investigate this issue. This study examined the factors that influence the adoption of cloud ERP in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia by combining the Diffusion of Innovation theory (DOI) and Technology-Organization-Environment (TOE) framework. The study found that a competitive environment, complexity, ICT infrastructure, observability, relative advantage, regulatory environment, ICT skill and top management support had a significant influence (p < 0.05) on the adoption of cloud ERP, while compatibility, organizational culture and trialability had no significant (p > 0.05) impact. The findings of this study will offer practical guidelines to the successful adoption of cloud ERP in Saudi Arabia and assist other developing countries in similar circumstances in planning and up-taking cloud ERP services.

Factors Influencing Physicians' Acceptance of e-Health in Developing Country: An Empirical Study

Md. Rakibul Hoque; Adnan Mustafa AlBar; Jahangir Alam

E-Health is one of the solutions to provide better access for patients and physician to healthcare facilities. In developing countries, e-Health is particularly important due to a shortage of physician and medical workers. Although most physicians in developing countries like Bangladesh acknowledge the benefits of e-Health, low adoption is not uncommon. The objective of this study is to identify the critical factors affecting e-Health adoption among physicians in Bangladesh. A cross-sectional survey questionnaire method was used for this study. The structural equation modeling SEM with the partial least square PLS approach was used to analyze the data. The study found that Performance Expectancy, Effort Expectancy, Social Influence and Personal Innovativeness had a significant impact on the behavioral intention to use e-Health, while Facilitating Conditions had no significant effect. The findings of this study will facilitate the degree of more acceptance of new technology by the physicians for their own betterment.

Factors affecting the adoption of information and communication technology in small and medium enterprises: a perspective from rural Saudi Arabia

Adnan Mustafa AlBar; Md. Rakibul Hoque

ABSTRACT Small and medium enterprises (SMEs) can play an important role in the national economy of developing countries. The adoption of information and communication technology (ICT) has enabled local SMEs to participate in the international market. However, little research has addressed issues related to SMEs adopting ICTs, especially in rural areas of Middle Eastern developing countries such as Saudi Arabia. Using the extended technology-organization-environment framework with personal innovativeness, this study examined the factors that influence the adoption of ICTs among SMEs in rural areas of Saudi Arabia. The study found that relative advantages, top management support, culture, regulatory environment, owner/manager innovativeness and ICT knowledge had a significant relationship with ICT adoption among SMEs in Saudi Arabia, whereas compatibility, complexity and a competitive environment had no significant relationship with ICT adoption. The findings of this study will potentially help SME managers/owners and the Saudi government in the successful adoption and diffusion of ICT in SMEs located in rural areas in Saudi Arabia.

Using of object oriented approach design models learning in information software engineering

Adnan Mustafa AlBar; Faris Abu Hashish

This paper focuses on the importance of using object oriented approach in teaching software engineering which using UML [unified modeling language] as supporting tools, the references in this place textbooks, lab manuals and other supplementary materials to teach these topics and how to implement these methodologies to get a very high quality education output. In this paper we discuss the OO Approach Design Models, also giving literature review about using OOA in teaching in addition to discussion about implementation of IS Engineering learning in KAU, ending with our conclusion. This paper also emphasizes: 1) the growing concerns of software engineering and its technologies applications. 2) existing books and supporting materials, and 3) King Abdulaziz universitys approach to teaching these topics. At KAU [king abdulaziz university] we incorporate software engineering into one course.
