Fusion of multispectral and panchromatic satellite sensor imagery based on tailored filtering in the Fourier domain

Mario Lillo-Saavedra; Consuelo Gonzalo; Agueda Arquero; Estibaliz Martinez

A new methodology for fusing satellite sensor imagery, based on tailored filtering in the Fourier domain is proposed. Finite‐duration Impulse Response (FIR) filters have been designed through an objective criterion, which depends on source image characteristics only. The designed filters allow a weighted fusion of the information contained in a fine spatial resolution image (PAN) and in a multispectral image (MULTI), respectively, establishing a trade‐off between spatial and spectral quality of the resulting fused image. This new technique has been tested with Landsat Enhanced Thematic Mapper Plus (ETM+) imagery. Spatial and spectral quality of the fused images was compared with the results provided by Mallats Wavelet algorithm. The images fused by the proposed method were characterized by a spatial resolution very close to the PAN image, and by the spectral resolution of the MULTI image.

Synthesis, spectral and electrochemical properties of divalent metal complexes containing thiohydrazone and thiosemicarbazone ligands

Abstract The L1H4 and L2H6 complexes of metal halides MX2 (M = Cu, Ni, Co, Zn, Cd or Hg, X = Cl, Br or I) have been prepared. The complexes were characterized on the bases of 1H NMR, IR, electronic and mass spectra, magnetic studies, conductance and analytical data. The stoichiometry and the spectroscopic data indicate that the complexes 1–8, 11, 12 and 15 the metal ions are coordinated by ligand anions and the complexes 9, 10, 13, 14 and 16 contain the neutral ligand. Electrochemical behaviour of nickel and cobalt complexes was determined by cyclic voltammetry. The reduction of complexes are related to metal-centred reductions. In addition, complexes 3, 11 and 12 show irreversible waves associated to Ni(II)/Ni(III) process. The reduction/oxidation potentials depend on the unsaturation grade present in the complexes.

A New Approach to Change Detection in Multispectral Images by Means of ERGAS Index

Diego Renza; Estibaliz Martinez; Agueda Arquero

In this letter, we propose a novel method for unsupervised change detection (CD) in multitemporal Erreur Relative Globale Adimensionnelle de Synthese (ERGAS) satellite images by using the relative dimensionless global error in synthesis index locally. In order to obtain the change image, the index is calculated around a pixel neighborhood (3

A comparison between the proposed method and the change vector analysis method is reported. The accuracy CD showed in the experimental results demonstrates the effectiveness of the proposed method.

Classification of Satellite Images by means of Fuzzy Rules generated by a Genetic Algorithm

Oscar Gordo; Estibaliz Martinez; Consuelo Gonzalo; Agueda Arquero

SummaryThe synthesis and characterization of 2-acetylpyridine-semicarbazone (apsc) and 2-acetylpyridinethiosemicarbazone (aptsc) and their complexes with CoCl2, CrCl3 and CuCl2 are reported. These compounds were characterized on the basis of elemental analyses, electronic and i.r. spectra, magnetic moments and conductivity measurements. The molar conductivities in dimethyl formamide indicate the non-ionic nature of the metal chelates. An octahedral structure is proposed for the chromium(III) chelate-complexes, tetrahedral for the copper(II) compounds and tetrahedral or octahedral for the cobalt(II). Apsc and aptsc are bidentate but with different donors, though aptsc is monodentate in its complex with CrCl3.

SummaryThe reactions of anhydrous titanium(IV), tin(IV) and vanadium(IV) halides with Schiff bases derived from 2-aminobenzimidazole and 4-methylbenzaldehyde (abimbz) and salicylaldehyde (abisal), yield hexacoordinated complexes M(abimbz)Cl4 and M(abisal)2X4 (M = Ti, Sn or V; X = Cl or Br).The compounds have been characterized by elemental analyses, magnetic measurements, e.p.r., electronic and i.r. spectral studies. I.r. spectra suggest that the Schiff base (abimbz) is coordinated as a bidentate ligand with the metal ion and the (abisal) base acts as a monodentate ligand.

The data acquired by Remote Sensing systems allow obtaining thematic maps of the earths surface, by means of the registered image classification. This implies the identification and categorization of all pixels into land cover classes. Traditionally, methods based on statistical parameters have been widely used, although they show some disadvantages. Nevertheless, some authors indicate that those methods based on artificial intelligence, may be a good alternative. Thus, fuzzy classifiers, which are based on Fuzzy Logic, include additional information in the classification process through based-rule systems. In this work, we propose the use of a genetic algorithm (GA) to select the optimal and minimum set of fuzzy rules to classify remotely sensed images. Input information of GA has been obtained through the training space determined by two uncorrelated spectral bands (2D scatter diagrams), which has been irregularly divided by five linguistic terms defined in each band. The proposed methodology has been applied to Landsat-TM images and it has showed that this set of rules provides a higher accuracy level in the classification process.

SummaryThe synthesis and characterization of 4-acetyl-pyridinesemicarbazone (4-apsc) and 4-acetylpyridine-thiosemicarbazone (4-aptsc) and their complexes with CrCl3, CoCl2 and CuCl2 are reported. These compounds were characterized on the basis of elemental analyses, electronic and i.r. spectra, magnetic moments and conductivities measurements. The compounds are nonconductors in dimethylformamide. Tentative structures for the complexes are suggested.

Decision Management making by AHP (Analytical Hierarchy Process) trought GIS data

Agueda Arquero; Marina Alvarez; Estibaliz Martinez

SummaryComplexes having the empirical formula M(BCTA)2X2, (M=Zn or Hg; X=Cl, Br or I) and Cd(BCTA)X2 (X=Cl, Br or I) are formed by reaction of benzenocarbothioamide (BCTA) with anhydrous zinc(II), cadmium(II) or mercury(II) halides and have been isolated and characterized by elemental analysis, conductance and molecular weight measurements, and by i.r., Raman and1H n.m.r. spectral studies. They are not appreciably ionized in acetonitrile solvent. The i.r.v(CN) shift to higher a frequency andv(CS) shift to a lower frequency indicate that BCTA is bound to the metals through sulphur. A tetrahedral structure withC2v symmetry is proposed for [M(BCTA)2X2] on the basis of the i.r. and Raman data, and a dimeric tetrahedral structure withC2h skeletal symmetry for Cd(BCTA)X2. The1H n.m.r. spectral measurements also show coordination through the sulphur atom.
