Vapor Deposition of Fluoride Glasses

Ahmad Sarhangi

The state of the art of fluoride glasses for fabrication of infrared fiber optics is reviewed. Different approaches for making ultra-pure raw fluoride materials and direct fabrication of fluoride preforms by chemical vapor deposition (CVD) are discussed. The results of CVD of metal fluorides for fabrication of ultra-low-loss fiber optics are discussed and recent progress in deposition of fluoride glass is noted.
