Visa-se, desta forma, oferecer subsidios para a compreensao do impacto deste fenomeno, tanto no campo religioso brasileiro em geral, como, mais especificamente, no interior do campo evangelico.

In this article are discussed some of the effects of the globalization on religion, such as the relation between globalization and tradition, and the detraditionalizationing effect that globalization has by promoting religious pluralization and, consequently, leading to an autonomy of identities of those individuals who search for religious goods. For that, I analyze two cases with distinct features regarding all these processes.

This article aims to analyze the use of modern communication technologies by groups and/or individuals associated with religion and religiosity in Brazil today. This will be done by analyzing both the Mass Communication Media (MCM) and the emerging Computer Mediated Communication (CMC). Special attention will be given to the marketing aspects involved in these uses, since by taking into account this intervening factor, it decisively throws light upon this process to be analyzed. As a result, it is shown that these are two models of communication that have deep religious “elective affinities” with two current ways of religious living experiences: the institutionalized religion of “religious firms” and the autonomous religiosity favored by today’s individualism.

Due to the emergence of the so called “cyberspace” through the popularization of communication mediated by computers (Internet) on a global scale, a fertile field for the conduction of investigations in Anthropology arose. As a consequence, new theoretical and methodological issues are made necessary. Aiming at this circumstance, we want to contribute with a reflective approach to some of the dilemmas imposed to the metier of ethnography in the cyberspace by evaluating the analytical potential of some types of cyberspace events. This evaluation is done through the analysis of an “extraordinary happening”, ethnographically monitored by the author.

From an essayistic approach, this article discusses analytically some elective affinities that can be observed between cyberspace and “the new age” religiosity. This reflection is based on a religious event on the Internet organized by the well-known North American actress and TV presenter Oprah Winfrey that took place from March till May 2008.
