I am pleased to report various Chapter activities at the IEEE Antennas and Propagation Society (AP-S) Symposium on Antennas and Propagation and the U.S. National Committee/International Union of Radio Science Meeting (URSI), held 8–13 July 2018 at the Westin Waterfront hotel in Boston, Massachusetts. These included the Chapter Chairs Luncheon meeting, membership engagement, professional networking, and the presentation of the Outstanding Chapter Award. As of 25 July 2018, we have received funding requests from 111 Chapters for organizing technical events in 2018. Figure 1 shows the Chapter activity reports submitted in the past nine years. Starting in 2014, when I took over as chair of the IEEE AP-S Chapter Activity Committee (CAC), the Chapter reporting has nearly doubled compared to the previous year. More than 70% of the Chapters are active, which is among the highest in the IEEE Societies. The following initiatives have played an important role in the growth of new Chapters and the increase in AP-S membership counts: ■ establ ishing and mainta ining communications with the Chapter officers ■ providing help to rejuvenate inactive Chapters ■ providing assistance in submitt ing petitions for establ ish ing new Chapters ■ addressing the concerns and problems that are raised by the Chapter officers and members ■ providing training materials to the Chapter officers ■ coordinating with Chapter officers, local IEEE Sections, and the IEEE headquarters for opening a new Chapter bank account because the IEEE no longer transfers annual Chapter support money into IEEE local Chapter officers’ personal bank accounts ■ providing a seamless application submission process for receiving grants to support travel for attending the annual Chapter Chairs Meeting (CCM), special project funding, and Outstanding Chapter Award recognition.
