AN EFFICIENT MULTI-PURPOSE OPTIMIZATION METHOD FOR QOS ROUTING USING GENETIC ALGORITHM

Akio Koyama; Leonard Barolli; Genci Capi; Bernady O. Apduhan; Junpei Arai; Arjan Durresi

In order to support multimedia communication, it is necessary to develop routing algorithms that make decisions based on multiple Quality of Service (QoS) parameters. This is because new services such as video on demand and remote meeting systems have multiple QoS requirements. However, the problem of QoS routing is difficult because finding a feasible route with two independent path constraints is NP-complete problem. Also, QoS routing algorithms for broadband networks must be adaptive, flexible, and intelligent for efficient network management. In this paper, we propose a multi-purpose optimization method for QoS routing based on Genetic Algorithm (GA). The simulation results show that the proposed method has a good performance and therefore is a promising method for QoS routing.

An agent based education system for cellular phone

Akio Koyama; Akira Sasaki; Leonard Barolli; Zixue Cheng

The cellular phone is now the most popular information terminal that anyone can use freely anywhere and anytime. We propose a mobile education system (MES) and an extended mobile HTTP (MHTTP) protocol. The MES can support the students learning by downloading the teacher agent (TA) into the students cellular phone. The TA plays an advising role for students, marks the students answers, and makes communication with the management agent (MA). The MA supports the teacher in preparing learning materials, preparing appropriate exercises, and homework. Also, it performs the students score management. The MHTTP is a protocol extended from the HTTP in order to deal with problems caused by HTTP for the cellular phone network. We implemented and evaluated the proposed system. The system evaluation shows that MES is a useful education system for students and teachers.

With the rapid progress of information technologies in network and multimedia fields, to build an virtual educational environment over high-speed netxadwork becomes possible and is strongly requested. Many efforts have been made for development of virtual educational environments and/or virtual universities. However, there is still a lack of a practical virtual educational environment, which supports educational activities with high degree of interactive and personalized teaching and learning.

Research on Web education system with personalized navigations

Guozhen Zhang; Zixue Cheng; Aiguo He; Akio Koyama; Tongjun Huang

The research on Web-based learning is a hot research topic in recent years. But the personalized learning support is limited in most researches, because the human cognitive processes and educational psychology-based study method are not considered. Our previous work proposed a learning support system based on a study method known as SQ3R. The system provided a set of tools and a simple navigation function following the SQ3R. But the navigation in this system is not flexible enough to follow the substance of the SQ3R. In order to support and promote learners to learn as the SQ3R scheduled, in this paper, we give three types of navigations named as heuristic tool-using navigation, traffic-light progress navigation, and suggestive review navigation.
