This paper describes the wideband wearable T-shape monopole antenna with parasitic elements and the wearable slot antenna with an arrow head for receiving the digital television broadcasting wave from 470 MHz to 770 MHz in Japan. These proposed wearable antennas achieved the good wideband performance in the condition that these antennas are in the free space. As a next stage, the VSWR and radiation pattern of both antennas are on the jacket worn by a human body have to be measured.

Small UWB Antenna using Triangular Elements

Akio Kuramoto

The small UWB antenna using the triangular elements, which is made of the printed circuit board without the wide ground plane, has been successfully developed. This antenna covers the wide band width from 3.1 GHz to 4.9 GHz and is small in order to be installed in the compact wireless USB-unit using UWB technique. This paper introduces its novel construction and the performance of the trial model antenna

Flat type UWB antenna by printed circuit board and performance

Akio Kuramoto

The flat type UWB antenna made of printed circuit board without the large ground plane is successfully developed. This antenna covers the wide band from 1.92GHz to 11GHz and is very useful for many kinds of multimedia communications. This paper introduces the performance of the prototype model antenna optimized by calculation and experiment.

Small UWB antenna using triangular elements on UWB unit

Akio Kuramoto

Recently wireless Universal Serial Bus (USB) system using Ultra Wide Band (UWB) technique is discussed. This time, we targeted to develop the antenna for UWB unit whose size is as same as the general USB stick memory size. This paper shows the small and wide band antenna made of the printed circuit board and its performance. The small UWB antenna which we proposed consists of four triangular elements on the front and the back sides of the printed circuit board. Its total size including the ground area is 10mm by 45mm. In this case, the ground area is used as a ground of antenna and the mounting area of LSI for UWB if LSI is realized in the size less than 10mm by 25mm. In terms of the antenna performance, VSWR has achieved less than 1.8 in the band from 3.1GHz to 4.8GHz which is the first applicable band for Wireless USB.

Wideband antenna using unsymmetrical planar elements and performance

Akio Kuramoto

The wideband antenna applied to PCMCIA card terminal for WiMAX and wireless PAN has been successfully developed. This antenna consists of the unsymmetrical planar elements, which is made of the printed circuit board, and can be operated from 2.5 GHz to 4.8 GHz. The radiation patterns are appropriately formed omnidirectional. This paper introduces its novel construction and the performances of the trial antenna.

Realization and measurements of planar switchable antenna system

Jiawen Sun; Wenhua Chen; Xin Wang; Zhenghe Feng; Yukitsuna Furuya; Akio Kuramoto

A novel planar switchable antenna system for wireless communication is presented. This switchable antenna system provides multiple radiation patterns by controlling the status of switches. The antenna system has only one element connected to the RF port without the need for RF switches or phase shifter in the direct RF signal path. The active element is surrounded by parasitic elements symmetrically. In order to realize the switch of different radiation pattern, a control circuit is developed accordingly to control the maximum direction of the pattern. An experimental antenna system is fabricated and tested.

Design of compact switched slot antenna

Wenhua Chen; Zhenghe Feng; Jiawen Sun; Yukitsuna Furuya; Akio Kuramoto

A novel compact switched slot antenna has been proposed in this paper, it consists of two slots cut in metal plane and a single feeding stub, and the slots are controlled by two switches mounted in the center of them. When each switch is open, the related slot could be excited, while the short one would be idle and serve as a reflector, the two elements could lead to unidirectional radiation pattern. By switching the switches, the pattern of antenna could be switched accordingly. Experimental results show this antenna has good performance, and the front to back ratio is better than 12 dB.
