A new karyotype and chromosomal banding pattern in Nannospalax ehrenbergi (Nehring, 1898) (Rodentia: Spalacidae) from southeast Anatolia, Turkey

This paper presents new data on chromosomes of the Palestine mole rat, Nannospalax ehrenbergi, from southeast Anatolia, Turkey. A new chromosomal form, 2n = 56, NF = 62 and NFa = 58, is determined from the region. C-banding revealed pericentromeric constitutive heterochromatin in one submetacentric and seven acrocentric autosome pairs. Two acrocentric autosome pairs and an acrocentric chromosome with a secondary constriction showed interstitial C-positive bands on their long arms. A secondary constriction was detected in the Y chromosome. The NORs were observed in one medium-sized metacentric autosome pair, and in four acrocentric pairs of autosomes.

Geomorphometric differences among four species of Microtus in Turkey (Mammalia: Rodentia)

In order to determine the phenotypic associations of four morphologically similar species of Microtus occurring in Turkey, we applied landmark-based shape analysis. The skulls of Microtus anatolicus, M. dogramacii, M. guentheri and M. levis (= M. rossiaemeridionalis) were found to differ significantly in terms of both size and shape. M. guentheri had the biggest skull, while M. levis had the smallest. Sexual dimorphism was found in the shape of the skull in M. dogramacii and M. levis. The tympanic bulla area is enlarged in M. anatolicus compared to the other species. Mahalanobis distances (the distance between a point and the group mean, taking into account the within-group covariance-variance matrix) confirm the distinction of the arvalis group (M. levis) and socialis group (Microtus anatolicus, M. dogramacii, M. guentheri).

Morphological Properties of Nannospalax (Rodentia: Spalacidae) Distributed in North-Iraq

Kuzey Irak bölgesinden 3 farklı lokaliteden toplanan 11 Kör Fare (Nannospalax) örneği üzerinde ayrıntılı olarak morfolojik özellikleri çalışılmıştır. Bazı taksonomik özellikleri, dış vücut ve baş iskeleti ölçüleri araştırılmıştır. Örneklerden elde edilen bilgiler literatür bilgileriyle karşılaştırılmıştır. Sonuçlar bu bölge Körfare’lerinin incelenen populasyonlarının benzer morfolojik özelliklere sahip olduklarını göstermektedir. Böylece, Kuzey Irak populasyonları morfolojik bakımından Nannospalax ehrenbergi türü olarak değerlendirilmiştir.

Nevşehir’de Baykuş Peletlerindeki Memeli Hayvan Kalıntılarının Dağılımı

Bu calismada Eylul-2010’da Nevsehir ili Devlet Hastanesi civarindaki agaclarin diplerinden Athene noctua , Tyto alba ve Bubo bubo turlerine ait 96 pelet toplanmis ve icerikleri incelenmistir. 96 pelet icerisinde toplam 246 adet memeli kalintisi bulunmustur. Genel olarak her pelette bir veya uc hayvan kalintisi bulunurken, maksimum alti (ortalama 2,2) hayvan kalintisina rastlanmistir. Peletlerde Soricimorpha’dan Crocidura suaveolens ve Rodentia takimindan Microtus guentheri, Microtus socialis, Microtus sp., Mus macedonicus, Mus musculus, Mus sp., Cricetulus migratorius, Meriones tristrami, Apodemus sylvaticus’ a ait kalintilar tespit edilmistir. Memelilerin buyuk kismini % 99,6 orani ile Rodentia ordosu; bunlarin cogunlugunu da Microtinae turlerinin (% 79,7) olusturdugu gozlenmistir. Microtus guentheri % 46,7 oran ile kalintilarda baskin olurken Microtus socialis % 23,2 orani ile en sik gorulen ikinci, Microtus sp. % 9,8 orani ile sik bulunan ucuncu tur olmustur. Meriones tristrami ile Apodemus sylvaticus kalintilarda birbirlerine esit (% 7,3) oranda bulunurken, Crocidura suaveolens (% 0,4) kalintilar icinde en az yogunlukta tespit edilen tur olmustur. Bunlarin disinda kus (% 4) bocek (%2) ve bir adet surungen kalintisi da bulunmustur.
