Improvement in the results in sixty-four ulnar nerve sections associated with arterial repair

Daniel Leclercq; Alain Carlier; Toan Khuc; Luc Depierreux; Georges N. Lejeune

Summary Direct muscular neurotization has limited indications: loss of the distal stump of a motor nerve or avulsion of the neuxad ral part of one or more muscles. These lesions cannot be repaired with conventional microsurgery techniques, and without the presented technique, the denervated muscles will remain permanently paralyzed. Despite rare failures from poor local vascular or muscular conditions, direct muscular neurotization has provided the vast majority of good results, with scores similar to those obtained with good microsurgical sutures or grafts and has been adopted by several microxad surgeons. Carpal tunnel syndrome in childhood: report of five new cases.

Carpal tunnel sybdrome is a condition rarely ecountered during the growth period. We decribe five new cases in two large Belgain university hospials. One case concerned a 2-year old child suffering from disseminated angiomatosis, an association not previously reported. Another case of mild severity corresponded to the classic association of trigger fingers and carpal tunnel syndrome. The third case was posttarumatic, and the last two cases were of the familial type that preciously has been reported in four families. We discuss these observarions and briefly review the literature.

The denervated first dorsal interosseous muscle flap: a case report.

John D. Lubahn; Alain Carlier; Graham D. Lister

Coverage of a dorsal defect on the hand of a child with exposed extensor tendons was provided by a denervated first dorsal interosseous muscle and splitthickness skin grafting. We do not recommend routine use of the first dorsal interosseous muscle as a flap; however, its use in cases in which the muscle has been denervated would seem justified.
