The facile synthesis of a novel bis-(guanidinium)-tetrakis-(beta-cyclodextrin) tetrapod, the first example of a new host family, was described, and the ability of the cyclodextrin CyD tetrapod to form molecular association with siRNA and DNA guest molecules was demonstrated. Affinity capillary electrophoresis was used to determine the binding constant with the evaluation of the shift in the electrophoretic mobility mu of injected siRNA when various CyD tetrapod concentrations were added to the run buffer. A significant association constant (K(a) =16,000 M(-1)) was obtained with borate buffer when double-stranded siRNA was primarily opened with the help of temperature. An efficient cellular transfection of siRNA into human embryonic lung fibroblasts was observed by fluorescence microscopy.

The facile synthesis of a novel bis(guanidinium)tetrakis(β-cyclodextrin) tetrapod, the first member of a new host family with a pre-defined number of guanidinium centres and cyclodextrins, is presented. Its molecular recognition towards nucleotide guest molecules was investigated. The formation of ditopic bimolecular complexes was observed, combining host–guest hydrophobic inclusion into cyclodextrins and electrostatic interactions between guanidinium and phosphate anions.

Abstract Two potential carriers (compounds 4 and 6), incorporating one galactose residue linked to a 18-6 crown ether as complexing tool, were synthesized for the first time using the trichloracetimidate method and evaluated for their in vitro specific recognition of a cell wall galactose-specific yeast lectin (KbCWL).

Resume Diligustilide, a new dimeric compound isolated from Ligusticum wallichii rhizome, has been identified as ( Z , Z ′), 6,7- cis , 6.6′, 7.3′a-di(3-butylidene 4,5-dihydrophthalide) by spectral analysis and thermolysis to ligustilide.

The present work describes the one-pot synthesis of new polyazamacrocyclic compounds 4–7 having hydrophobic hosts cavities (β-cyclodextrins) attached to a metal chelating aza-macrocycle by ureido spacer arms. A coupling average of 30% was obtained, proving the efficiency of the “phosphinimine” method for a rapid access to new supramolecular devices. The subsequent complexation of 6 with EuCl3 give the stable complex 8. Preliminary results on fluorescence properties are reported.

Two new C2 symmetric bis-cellobiose and bis-glucose azacrown derivatives were prepared according to the one-step procedure using azacrown ethers and azidosaccharides. Their complexes with aspirin and paracetamol were studied with the use of proton NMR spectroscopy. It was found that these pseudocryptands bind aspirin and paracetamol but each one in a different manner.

Abstract The present work describes the one-pot synthesis of an heptakis-(bipyridinyl-ureido)-β-cyclodextrin in a high coupling average (82%) by the “phosphinimine” approach. The subsequent complexation of 3 with EuCl 3 or TbCl 3 gives stable complexes 4 . Preliminary results on complexation and fluorescence properties are reported.
