experiences. Our innovative study provided a means for individuals with dementia to express how they experienced music therapist-led group singing in a residential care home. The guiding research question was: What is the experience of music therapist-led group singing for individuals with dementia living in a residential care facility? Methods: Six male residents, diagnosed with moderate to advanced dementia and ranging in age from 78 to 92 years, participated in six 30-minute group singing sessions facilitated by a music therapist who also played the piano. Repertoire incorporated familiar folk, pop, country and hymn selections. Sources of data included observation, field notes, video recording, and individual interviews (fully recorded and transcribed), which were analyzed using an adapted observational checklist (Davidson & Fedele, 2011) and Interpretive Phenomenological Analysis (Smith & Osborn, 2003). Results: The analysis process produced six themes that described three aspects of the singers’ experience of group singing: (1) how they experienced themselves (Self as Performer, Self as Part of a Group); (2) how they experienced the music (Live Music is Special; Music is a Gift); and (3) how they experienced dementia and music (Gaps in Time, Memory and Ability; The Music Is Still There). During post-singing session interviews, participants were able to express a range of feelings (e.g., joy, pride, pleasure, relaxation), despite verbal limitations. Conclusions:Conclusions included support about the value and appropriateness of engaging individuals with dementia in research (as participants were able to contribute meaningful data) as well as, in group singing led by a music therapist. Furthermore, evidence supporting group singing as an aspect of dementia care that contributes to wellbeing (as conceptualized by the PERMA model’s five elements of positive emotions, engagement, relationships, meaning, and achievement, Seligman, 2011) was noted.

ipal recreation centres, older adult centres or similar multi-service facilities. MiM is in pilot phase until March 2016. This presentation will include conclusive program evidence around participant and staff experience and overview of the design and feasibility of the program. Methods:The objective of MiM is to create safe and supportive environments for people living with dementia to encourage healthy active lifestyles post diagnosis and provide opportunities for service providers to enhance their program delivery and development skills. MiM is evaluated using standardized templates for physical assessments, participant self reports on mood, impact of program on daily life activities and general satisfaction reviews by both participants and service delivery personnel. Alzheimer Society staff and volunteers administer the evaluations and track outcomes. Evaluations indicate 96% of participants enjoy the program with 85% of them returning for additional MiM sessions. 17% of participants leave the program during the 8 weeks, usually due to progression of dementia or other co-morbidities. 90% of staff and volunteers indicate an increase in their knowledge related to dementia and working with older adults. 53% of participants report they have developed new relationships through MiM. Conclusion: The Success of this program is reliant on strong community partnerships to run and promote the program, standardized training and curriculum, volunteer support, reliable transportation options for participants and flexibility in activities to accommodate various abilities. MiM is creating inclusive and supportive environments helping to normalize the experience for participants and expose them to recreation opportunities.

appropriate increase in dilation at moderate loads. Conclusions: These results suggest that pupillometry is associated with altered brain activity, inflammatory state, and cognitive performance. This provides converging evidence for LC involvement, an early site of AD pathology which may provide the neural substrate linking these measures together. Given the relatively young age of the sample, TEPD may provide a simple and useful psychophysiological biomarker for early identification of AD risk.

analysis. Searches were conducted through PubMed and Google Scholar. Only English papers that contained search terms in title and/or abstract: AD or MCI, and MRI, and grey matter, whole brain, cortical thickness, hippocampus, medial temporal lobe were taken into account. In total, 1930 articles were found. Reviews (n1⁄4138), case reports (n1⁄47), papers about animal models (n1⁄499), medication trails (n1⁄445), autopsy-based studies (n1⁄442), articles that compared AD with other dementias (n1⁄4174), and articles that not fulfilled the criteria (n1⁄41053) were deselected. Of the remaining 372 articles, 252 described cross-sectional studies based on structural MRI in patients within the AD spectrum and/or controls, 120 described studies based on a volumetric MRI technique. Results:Further analyses, including evidence based grading of the selected 372 papers are planned in the first quartile of 2016. Conclusions:This systematic review gives an overview of methodological developments that allow volumetric assessment of different brain regions in vivo, and summarize the results of structural imaging studies covering the entire AD spectrum as compared to healthy ageing.
