Vision of the Aging Patient.

Albert E. Sloane

Fifteen authors combine to make this book on an important subject a worthwhile addition to every opththalmological library. These contributors include Ph.Ds and optometrists. All have in common a background of extensive teaching and academic interest. This book being optometrically slanted, there will be those who will disagree with many points, but there is enough of indisputable worth to more than balance. The section on pathology of the eye is sparse as to be expected when one tries to condense this subject into two chapters totaling twenty-eight pages. An excellent general introduction including social implications paves the way for interesting chapters on physiology, visual acuity, refraction and accommodation aspects of the aging. There is a worthwhile section on partial vision and optical aids. The special.problem of adjusting spectacles is considered. Contact lenses are discussed as well as the problems and opportunities for rehabilitation. In all there are seventeen chapters and

A vision test for pediatrician's use

Albert E. Sloane; J. Roswell Gallagher

Summary A brief method for examining eyes which requires little time and only a small amount of inexpensive equipment and yet which is efficient in detecting those children, from about the age of 4 through adolescence, who have either diminished visual acuity or a latent refractive error (hypermetropia), has been described in detail. A supplementation of this test with tests of heterophoria is suggested for those who wish a more complete examination requiring more, but simple, equipment. The necessity for a careful administration of the test because of its brevity and simplicity should be kept in mind.

Albert E. Sloane

This lecture just appeared on Audio-Digest (tape service) and the invitation as well. I am deluged with requests, and I, therefore, hope that you will include this list in theArchivesto help me with a large mail order assignment which I did not anticipate.
