As the world tries to pull itself out of the worst recession for decades, users of satellite bandwidth are looking to squeeze as much value out of their links as possible. This is being made possible through technological advancements such as Adaptive Coding and Modulation and Forward Error Correction. SEA finds out more about reduction of CAPEX and OPEX and what the satellite industry is doing to help its customers. It has been a tough couple of years for companies across the world, no matter what industry they are involved in and the one thing at the forefront of their minds is that of cutting costs and getting a higher Return on Investment. Users of often-expensive satellite band-width are no exception and the satellite industry has had to focus on not just selling their products to their customers, but helping them to get the very best out of their communication links. Bringing CAPEX down is a constant battle. People are much more conscious of what they are paying. They are looking for a product that will replace the equipment they have but will pay for itself in six months. They want fast Return on Investment. New techniques have emerged that enable users to use their bandwidth more effectively, that utilises all of the bandwidth and reduces or eliminates conditions such as rain fade. Demand for cellular backhaul has driven the demand for optimisation in order to enable mobile operators to deliver greater capacity and support bandwidth-intensive applications. WAN optimisation can also deliver acceleration and compression at application levels. We are seeing more and more modems incorporating these types of technologies. Since the DVB-S2 standard has become prevalent, Adaptive Coding and Modulation has become a popular technique to maxim
