The scientific production of Ibero-American authors on information literacy (1985---2013)

María Pinto; M. Isabel Escalona; Antonio Pulgarín; Alejandro Uribe-Tirado

The objective of this study was to make a current diagnosis of the scientific production of Ibero-American researchers on information literacy and information competences during the last four decades. The literature output on information literacy was examined using the techniques of bibliometric analysis and information visualization. The literature considered was that constituted by the articles included in the Web of Science (Thomson Reuters), Scopus (Elsevier), Library and Information Science Abstracts, and Library, Information Science and Technology Abstracts databases. The occurrence of descriptors was analysed using VOSViewer, a program that groups them into clusters and generates a map of their connections. The results showed exponential growth of some 30xa0% annually between 2005 and 2011, with a mean of 14.45 documents per year. Spain, with 119 documents, was the top producing country, followed by Brazil with 76. The distribution of the more than 500 authors fitted a Lotka-law pattern, and the distribution of the 105 journals fitted the three zones of a Bradford-law pattern. The visualization map showed the 62 descriptors to group into seven clusters. For its centrality, there stood out “Information literacy”, strongly related with “Information Science”. At the edge of the map were “Digital literacy” and “School library”, indicative of their lack of any strong relationship with other terms. The “Education”, “Knowledge management”, “Universities & colleges”, and “University libraries” descriptors were linked closely with the main IL theme. ABSTRACT: For the dentist the oral cavity has meaned just an anatomical site 01the total human body, in it thereare located the organs on which he or she practices his or her biotechnological knowledge. From Freud on thepsychoanalytic school olthought proposed that the mouth is an erogenouszone full otlibido around it thesubjectdisplayshis or her pulsion and it represents his or her history; elso, thesuction activity notonly lulfill a nutritional lunction but it is an erotic activity that tends toseek pleasure in this particular zone 01the body, cover by mucous on lips and mouth.

Incorporating Information Literacy in Ibero-American University Libraries: Comparative Analysis of the Information from Their Websites

Alejandro Uribe-Tirado; María Pinto

This paper, framed in research Lessons Learned in information literacy programs at universities in Ibero-America, will show how, from the information displayed on websites of university libraries of the 22 countries that make up the Ibero-American context, it is possible to have an approximation of the incorporation, or lack thereof, of information literacy in these universities at different levels. To achieve this purpose, the method used was web content analysis, considering first, the definition of seven categories of identifying information from such websites and programs/services training that they present. Considering these categories, and particularly the structure of program/u200bservice training, which is the most common information presented on websites –four levels were established involving the incorporation of information literacy, or lack of such, in the university. These results show that the incorporation of information literacy in Ibero-America is still in its initial process; however, in some specific countries, the reality is more positive.

75 lessons learned for enhancing information literacy programs: From Ibero-America to universities worldwide

Alejandro Uribe-Tirado; María Pinto

Purpose n n n n nThe purpose of this study has the aim of expanding lessons learned that were originally detected for information literacy (INFOLIT) programs in Ibero-American universities (from Latin America, Spain and Portugal), this paper presents lessons learned for enhancing equivalent programs offered by other universities around the world. n n n n nDesign/methodology/approach n n n n nAs this paper is a comparative literature review, the methodology involved three stages. Initially, a documentary analysis was carried out to identify the texts published during the past five years – since 2013 – reporting a categorization of experiences and cases of international INFOLIT programs and their corresponding lessons learned. Second, we conducted a content analysis of these publications to uncover the classification, identification and frequency of the lessons learned. A third comparative step consisted of analyzing the similarities of these lessons when compared to those reported in similar research on Ibero-American universities (Uribe-Tirado, 2013). n n n n nFindings n n n n nFrom the 75 lessons learned from INFOLIT programs in Ibero-American universities, 65 lessons (87 per cent) were identified as also present in universities elsewhere. These similarities give an account of the possibilities for collaborative learning and benchmarking that INFOLIT programs could achieve with regard to content, pedagogy, learning objects and evaluation if there were more networking and more common participation in sharing experiences, with appropriate adaptations to contextual, technological and idiomatic variations. n n n n nOriginality/value n n n n nAs a comparative literature review, this paper makes a significant contribution to the international advancement of INFOLIT in higher education, as it correlates the lessons learned from INFOLIT programs in Ibero-American universities with those from other countries. This provides a global view of the lessons learned about INFOLIT, which to date have not been reported with such a wide scope and number of lessons.

La Web Semántica Y Sus Posibles Aplicaciones En Las Universidades (The Semantic Web and Its Possible Applications in Universities)

Alejandro Uribe-Tirado

The Semantic Web as a whole, for the Internet, it is not a reality yet, but different projects and applications are being developed with advances in fundamental processes for the information and knowledge management in academia and science. After reviewing different classifications of case and use studies, and semantic applications, it is proposed a classification based on the value they would have for different members of a university community: students, teachers, researchers and administrators.
