Unigrids streaming framework: enabling streaming for the new generation of grids

Krzysztof Benedyczak; Aleksander Nowiński; Krzysztof Nowiński; Piotr Bała

We present a new infrastructure for high performance streaming in OGSA/WSRF compliant grid. The UniGrids Streaming Framework (UGSF) works with UnicoreGS as WSRF hosting environment. The paper discusses the advantages of mixed SOAP based control with highly efficient streaming. The UGSF components, streaming server and WSRF web service are described along with a detailed performance analysis including comparison to standard solutions. Some applications based on the UGSF are also presented.

Infrastructural Approach to Modern Digital Library and Repository Management Systems

Tomasz Rosiek; Wojtek Sylwestrzak; Aleksander Nowiński; Marek Niezgódka

Traditional DLM Systems were usually implemented in the form of an either monolithic or distributed applications. The paper presents a modern approach, where a modular environment provides an infrastructure of components to build DMLS applications upon. A case study of an open Synat Software Platform is presented, together with its sample applications, and the key benefits of the approach are discussed.

Interactive Visualization for the UNICORE Grid Environment

Piotr Bała; Krzysztof Benedyczak; Aleksander Nowiński; Krzysztof Nowiński; Jarosław Wypychowski

A description of interactive visualization plugins for the UNICORE grid system is provided. The plugins allows for attaching to running UNICORE jobs, downloading current state of computation and visualization of the results. The plugin set contains a general purpose 2D visualization system Sapphire and an example plugin MolDyAna for 3D visualization of the progress of molecular dynamics jobs. The Sapphire subsystem contains user configurable tools for simple plots of different types and 2D data plotting tools, together with an extensive GUI. MolDyAna provides both standard methods of animation and graphing and several advanced postprocessing and visualization techniques

Real-Time visualization in the grid using UNICORE middleware

Krzysztof Benedyczak; Aleksander Nowiński; Krzysztof Nowiński; Piotr Bała

This paper presents real-time data streaming and client side visualization which was developed using UNICORE middleware. Described here IVis system extends UNICORE capabilities and allows for streaming of the data produced by the running simulations. IVis client provides user with advanced tools for data visualization and analysis. The developed software can be also used for remote steering and control. The important feature of the developed solution is utilization of the UNICORE security infrastructure which allows for data streaming without opening new holes in the firewall. The performance of the IVis system has been measured and is presented. We have found that bandwith is mostly limited by the network speed. Performed tests conformed that developed tools can be efficiently used for data streaming and on-line visualization and streaming on the grid.

Detailed Presentation versus Ease of Search — Towards the Universal Format of Bibliographic Metadata. Case Study of Dealing with Different Metadata Kinds during Import to Virtual Library of Science

Jakub Jurkiewicz; Aleksander Nowiński

We divide the existing scientific publication metadata types into two classes: field based and free-text based. The division is based on origins of data, however they correspond to the main functions of digital libraries: data presentation and search services. These classes are compared to present their advantages and disadvantages. Our own format, BWMeta, is presented and shown to have the advantages of both previously described classes. Another important quality of BWMeta is displayed, which is good preservation of information.

UNICORE virtual organizations system

Krzysztof Benedyczak; Marcin Lewandowski; Aleksander Nowiński; Piotr Bała

In this paper we present a novel Virtual Organizations management system called UVOS, developed within the Chemomentum project. It is a complete and production ready solution aiming at simplicity of deployment and management without sacrificing a flexibility and functionality. The system can be also used as an underlying technology for more high level solutions. The system was designed mainly for the UNICORE grid middleware but, as it uses the open SAML protocol and implements numerous SAML profiles, its adoption for other grid middlewares is straightforward. The paper compares the UVOS system to the other existing and popular solutions: VOMS and Shibboleth used with GridShib.

Current bibliography research information systems in Poland

Aleksander Nowiński

Abstract In this article we give a general overview of the current state of the systems for managing current research information in Poland. We focus on information on bibliographic data, which has special situation in the current science landscape of Poland.Management of the publication outcome on the university level in Poland is not satisfactionary, as far not each university have proper database for this purpose. Also usually there is proper procedure ensuring, that publications are properly registered in the system, so systems are incomplete. State level aggregation of the publication information has been done each four years, and only limited amount of information has been collected, so there was no pression to ensure proper quality of the present systems. Currently situation is changing, as there is a new central system developed to aggregate most of the data belonging to typical CRIS system. Part of this system is a Polish Scholarly Bibliography, which will attempt to provide current and complete information about publication outcome of the Polish academic institutions. As the system POL-on is developed to cover most of the parts of the information about research and higher education it covers two more important modules of this field - POL-index - a citation index for regional journals and a repository of the theses to be used for antiplagiarism purposes.

Flexible streaming infrastructure for UNICORE

Krzysztof Benedyczak; Aleksander Nowiński; Piotr Bała

We present recent innovation in a field of advanced, multipurpose streaming solutions for the grid. The described solution is based on the Unigrids Streaming Framework [7] which has been adopted to the UNICORE 6 middleware and extended. The main focus of this paper is the UGSF Data Flow Editor, which is an universal tool for powerful streaming composition. It has been developed to provide users with a graphical interface for streaming applications on the grid.

Web Based Real Time System for Wavepacket Dynamics

Aleksander Nowiński; Krzysztof Nowiński; Piotr Bała

In this paper we describe prototype systemm for web based interface to numerically intense simulations. Presented system solves time-dependent Schroedinger equation using wavepackets. Proposed solution consists from three main parts: client which acts as graphical user interface, server which receives requests form various clients and handles all running jobs. The last part is computing engine which can be treated as external application and in principle can be written in any computer language.
