In this work, the second- and third-order nonlinear optical response of spin-deposited thin films of three different push-pull side chain azobenzene polymers is investigated by the second- and third-harmonic Maker fringes techniques using 30 ps laser pulses at a fundamental wavelength of 1064 nm. Measurements were carried out before and after aligning the chromophores by corona poling of the films, while different polarization configurations have been utilized. Strong dependence of the response upon the structure of the systems has been found, which is related to the different charge transfer within the molecules. The reported findings are compared with already published results.

Vitaliy Smokal; Aleksey Kolendo; Oksana Krupka; Beata Derkowska; Robert Czaplicki; B. Sahraoui

Oxazalone and thiazolidinone derivatives were synthesized and their physicochemical properties are determined by absorption, HNMR spectroscopies. The third order nonlinear optical properties of oxazolone and thiazolidinone containing compounds were investigated in solutions using degenerate four wave mixing (DFWM) method at 532 nm.

Investigation of Inhibiting Action Mechanism of Succinimidophenylmethacrylate Derivatives Prepared by the Diels–alder Reaction on Polystyrene Decomposition

Iu. Nestorak; Aleksey Kolendo; Olga Demchenko; N. Iukhymenko; A. Byeda; B. Mischanchuk

The influence of succinimidophenylmethacrylate derivatives on the polystyrene thermal stability in argon is assessed by dynamic thermogravimetric analysis. The monomers (1 or 3 mol%) prepared by Diels--Alder reaction have been introduced into polystyrene by means of the copolymerization reaction. The decomposition products of polystyrene with additions have been investigated by thermal desorption analysis coupled with mass spectrometry. During the heating of polystyrene with additions, the retro-Diels--Alder reaction produces dienes and dienophiles which react with macroradicals and thus inhibit the radical chain process of polymer thermal decomposition. The inhibiting effect of the succinimidophenylmethacrylate derivatives is determined by the temperature range of the retro-Diels--Alder reaction.

Side-Chain Azobenzene Polymers: Synthesis and Photochemical Properties

Vitaliy Smokal; Oksana Krupka; B. Sahraoui; Aleksey Kolendo

A series of methacrylic monomers containing azobenzene moiety with alkyl spacer and different substituents is synthesized. Their photophysical and photochemical properties have been investigated. The photophysical properties of these compounds are investigated by 1H NMR, IR, and UV spectroscopies.

ABSTRACT A series of novel polymers with styrylquinoline moiety and different substituents units have been successfully synthesized by radical polymerization. Styrylquinoline polymers were obtained by a three-step synthetic approach. This includes the condensation, preparation of a methacrylic monomers and their polymerization. The synthesized polymers are soluble in common organic solvents. Their photophysical and photochemical properties of the initial styrylquinoline and the polymer have been investigated by UV–vis and photoluminescence spectroscopy. Polymers were characterized by 1HNMR-spectroscopy and DSC techniques.

Synthesis and investigation of bromine containing oxy- and propionoxyphenylimides for polymers thermostabilization

Yu. Karabets; Aleksey Kolendo; Olga Demchenko; N. Iukhymenko; A. Byeda

ABSTRACT The new bromine containing oxyphenylimides are synthesized by Diels-Alder condensation from commercial products. From the bromine containing oxyphenylimides were obtained corresponding imidophenylpropionates. The brominating of oxyphenylimides has different influence on their thermal properties subject to diene building. The possible routes of thermal decomposition of the brominated oxyphenylimides and imidophenylpropionates were studied with the help of thermal desorption analysis coupled with mass spectrometry. The perspectives of bromine containing oxyphenylimides usage for creation of new polystyrene stabilizing systems are discussed.

New bent-shaped azomethine monomers for optical applications

Valeriia Ovdenko; Aleksey Kolendo

ABSTRACT It was convenient preparative method of new methacrylic monomers with banana-shaped structure and photoactive azomethine fragments synthesis. To determine the effect of large azomethine fragment on the process of homopolymerization, symmetrical model compounds with simpler structure were synthesized. The kinetic of its thermally initiated radical polymerization in DMF solution was studied and compared with the kinetics of model compounds does not containing bulky photochromic fragment. Peculiarities of photo initiated processes of E,Z-isomerization were studied.

Brominating of Oxyphenylimides for Enhancement of Stabilizing Properties of their Derivatives

Yu. Karabets; Aleksey Kolendo; Olga Demchenko; N. Iukhymenko

New bromine-containing oxyphenylimides are synthesized by the Diels–Alder condensation from commercial products. The effect of the bromination of oxyphenylimides on their thermal behavior as comparing with the thermal stability of polystyrene in air is assessed by dynamic thermogravimetric analysis and differential scanning calorimetry. The bromination of oxyphenylimides has different influences on their thermal properties subject to the diene building. The perspectives of the usage of bromine-containing oxyphenylimides for the creation of new polystyrene-stabilizing systems are discussed.
