Charge particle multiplicity and transverse energy measurements in AuAu collisions in PHENIX at RHIC

Alexander Bazilevsky

Abstract We present results on charged particle (dNch/dη) and transverse energy densities (dET/dη) measured at mid-rapidity in Au Au collisions at S N N = 200 GeV. The mean transverse energy per charged particle is derived. The results are presented as a function of centrality, which is defined by the number of participating nucleons (Np), and compared to results obtained in Au Au collisions at S N N = 130 GeV. A comparison with calculations from various theoretical models is performed.

PHENIX spin program, recent results

Alexander Bazilevsky

Acceleration of polarized protons in Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider (RHIC) provides unique tool to study the spin structure of the nucleon. We give a brief overview of the PHENIX program to investigate poorly known gluon and flavor decomposed see quark polarization in the proton, utilizing polarized proton collisions at RHIC. We report PHENIX first results on transverse single-spin asymmetry inπ0 and charged hadron production and longitudinal double-spin asymmetry inπ0 production at mid-rapidity.

Global observables at PHENIX

Alexander Bazilevsky

We present PHENIX recent results on charged particle and transverse energy densities measured at mid-rapidity in Au−Au collisions at (sqrt {s_{NN} } = 130) GeV and 200 GeV over a broad range of centralities. The mean transverse energy per charged particle is derived. The first PHENIX measurements at (sqrt {s_{NN} } = 19.6) GeV are also presented. A comparison with calculations from various theoretical models is performed.
