Solving Constraints in Model Transformations

Constraint programming holds many promises for model driven software development (MDSD). Up to now, constraints have only started to appear in MDSD modeling languages, but have not been properly reflected in model transformation. This paper introduces constraint programming in model transformation, shows how constraint programming integrates with QVT Relations - as a pathway to wide spread use of our approach - and describes the corresponding model transformation engine. In particular, the paper will illustrate the use of constraint programming for the specification of attribute values in target models, and provide a qualitative evaluation of the benefit drawn from constraints integrated with QVT Relations.

MDA applied: a task-model driven tool chain for multimodal applications

Recently, industry has adopted multimodal, context-aware applications. However, addressing various modalities on heterogeneous platforms implies a demanding development effort. Therefore, we present a task-centric methodology and a tool chain leveraging the development of adaptive multimodal applications. In order to improve efficiency the tool chain is based on the Model Driven Architecture approach emphasizing two key principles: model-to-model transformations and tool integration.

EMODE – Modellgetriebene Entwicklung multimodaler, kontextsensitiver Anwendungen (EMODE – Model-driven Development of Multimodal, Context Sensitive Applications)

Zusammenfassung Die Entwicklung multimodaler, kontextsensitiver Anwendungen gewinnt zunehmend an Interesse. Jedoch stellen diese höhere Anforderungen an den Softwareentwicklungsprozess. In diesem Beitrag werden die Arbeiten und Ergebnisse aus dem EMODE-Projekt vorgestellt, welches sich die Verbesserung der Effizienz der Entwicklung multimodaler, kontextsensitiver Anwendungen zum Ziel gesetzt hat. Dabei nutzt EMODE modellbasierte Entwicklung; wobei insbesondere die Integration der verschiedenen Entwicklungsschritte und eine durchgehende Werkzeugunterstützung betont werden. Summary Interest in development of multimodal, context sensitive applications is growing. But these applications have higher demands on the software development process. In this article, the work and results of the EMODE project are introduced. The project aims at improving the efficiency of developing multimodal, context sensitive applications. EMODE builds upon model driven engineering and focuses on the integration of the various development steps, as well as an end-to-end tool chain support.

Usability Aware Model Driven Development of User Interfaces

We propose an approach how to develop and integrate usability metrics in (multimodal) dialog systems and user interfaces with Model Driven Software Development (MDSD). It enables the developer to start early with simple metrics and allows him to refine them during the ongoing work. Additionally, we show how the resulting metrics can be used to estimate the usability in advance, so that the developer may care about critical parts of the application before testing it.
