This paper describes a study about the impact of electrical fast transients (EFT) on performance of communication protocols. A method of fast transient injection is applied in an experimental CAN network with the objective of verifying an impact on jitter and how it influences the communication process. An experiment was conducted in laboratory with a model of typical CAN network configuration with three nodes to verify the time delays. As result, was verified that EFT increases peak delay between data control cycles and can effectively influence and generated faults in communication process.

The Internet of Things concept is increasingly being used in projects from different areas. Often, projects encompass applications from different domains that need to share information for a common purpose. These types of systems can become complex because they involve different domains and it can be difficult to share information without misinterpreting certain information. Ontologies can be a way to describe information to be shared between different domains. The present work aims to propose a tool that facilitates the creation of Internet of Things systems using ontologies and through this model generate code automatically to pre-automate the integration of devices. A tool has been developed that facilitates the extraction of information from the ontology and it has been validated in the case study.

Electrical fast transients (EFT) represent an important problem to intravehicular networks. Concerning this problem, this paper reports a study about the impact of EFT to the performance of communication protocols used in intravehicular networks. A method of fast transient injection has been applied to an experimental CAN network with the objective of verifying the EFT impact on jitter and how it influences the communication process. An experiment with a simulated control system distributed over a real CAN network was carried out. For this experiment, an active suspension system was chosen as a case study and a sequence of EFT injections was performed. As a result, it was verified that injected EFT bursts increase jitter of safety-critical control messages and may effectively influence and produce faults during the communication process.

This paper describes a fuzzy control methodology for continuous passive motion equipment (CPM). The methodology combines fields such as artificial intelligence, through the fuzzy controller development; and control engineering, joining an optimization mechanism of movement with closed loop control. Following UML-MARTE profile is used to modeling the methodology. Based on system input/output and a set of defined rules to model the plant dynamic behavior a control algorithm is developed. Test analysis between laboratory and prototype experiments demonstrates the methodology applicability. In both scenarios the time constraints related to position feedback in stepper motor and DC motor are satisfactory.

This paper describes the use of magnetic sensors in fault monitoring of a conventional planter that does not have embedded technology. An alternative solution for small and medium farmers in the fault detection that are common and that generate negative impacts on production. The control algorithm allows the parameterization and configuration of embedded system for different types of equipment. A case study was conducted in rural property, with the installation of the control system in a planter. Results show that the fault detection was satisfactory with the sound alerts generated at all failure scenarios.

Visually impaired people still have difficulties to independent movement in indoor and outdoor environments. In outdoor environments, GPS capability can be used to support orientation. However, the mobility of these users indoors is still a challenge. Advances in technology, emphasizing the contribution of research in Human-Computer Interaction, allow the development of accessible solutions that provide greater independence, security and improvement of life for the visually impaired. In this context, this paper presents the development of a solution to help guiding blind people indoors. This solution makes use of embedded systems low cost, RFID technologies, and mobile devices.

This paper describes the development of a conceptual control model for Assistive Technologies applied in Environment Control, with electroencephalographic analysis as a means of communication. The control model aims to facilitate the interaction between the individual and the environment, enhancing aspects of existing communication, as well as add quality in the execution of certain tasks of day-to-day. Experimental results demonstrate the feasibility of the communication process developed based on the proposed model, observed by success in 78.33% of communication tests.
