Simulation numérique bidimensionnelle d'un écoulement turbulent stratifié autour d'un obstacle

Resume On etudie, par simulation des grosses structures, un ecoulement turbulent stratifie autour dun obstacle. Letude dynamique relative a la formation des structures tourbillonnaires coherentes a permis de determiner lallure de lecoulement et de preciser ses principales caracteristiques (couche cisaillee, recirculation et recollement). En presence dune discontinuite de temperature (stratification stable), lecoulement est instable en aval de lobstacle. On note la presence des appariements caracterisant les interactions entre la couche cisaillee et la zone de recirculation. Ces phenomenes sexpliquent par le forcage induit par la recirculation. Lecoulement devient de plus en plus organise lorsquon augmente lintensite de stratification. On montre le blocage de la couche cisaillee par inhibition du processus dappariements et la perte de lintensite des instabilites de Kelvin–Helmholtz. Un interet particulier a ete reserve au developpement des instabilites de type barocline. Ces instabilites provenant des gradients horizontaux de temperature sont transportees par lecoulement moyen sur une couche de melange entre les couches chaude et froide. On note la propagation des ondes de gravite sur cette couche. Ce mecanisme assure une homogeneisation du champ de temperature et contribue a la propriete de melange turbulent a petite echelle. La dynamique de lecoulement stratifie en aval de lobstacle est tout a fait similaire a la couche de melange libre stratifiee.
