Turnen beyond gymnastics: dynamic figurations in a space of sport practices

Tunrverein Santa Cruz (Santa Cruz Society of Gymnastic) was founded in 1893, in the actual Santa Cruz do Sul city, Rio Grande do Sul state. This study investigate how the Santa Cruz Society of Gymnastic was figured as a space of sport practices and ethnic identity representations, between the 1880s and the 1910s. A documental analyses of printed sources revealed that, in the current period, this sportive association was a singular space of dynamic configurations, promoting the cult of the body as a mean of identification to a German way of being, as well as the sociability and social distinction of an ethnically defined part of Santa Cruz citizens.

CONFIGURAÇÕES DE IDENTIDADES ÉTNICAS EM ASSOCIAÇÕES ESPORTIVAS: PRÁTICAS E REPRESENTAÇÕES CULTURAIS

This study investigates how the sports associations of target shooting and horse riding from Santa Cruz do Sul became spaces for ethnic identity representations between the late 19 th and early 20 th century. The printed sources analyzed revealed that shooters and riders affirm and reconfigured representations of German-Brazilian identities through sports associations in a plural and fluid way, in a dynamic relation with the sociocultural space.

A natação em piscinas nos clubes da cidade de Porto Alegre (décadas de 1930 e 1940)

Este estudo objetiva descrever como se sucedeu a pratica da natacao em piscinas nos clubes da cidade de Porto Alegre nas decadas de 1930 e 1940. As fontes consultadas evidenciaram que a natacao era praticada primeiramente em rios e lagos. O marco da pratica institucionalizada da natacao, nao apenas em Porto Alegre, mas no Brasil, foi a construcao da primeira piscina do pais em 1885 no Lago Guaiba, por iniciativa da atual SOGIPA. Somente, na decada de 1940 foram construidas piscinas em clubes visando a pratica da natacao.
