Surface Roughness Prediction During Dry Turning of Austenitic Stainless Steel AISI 304

Ioan Alexandru Popan; Nicolae Bâlc; Alina Popan; Domniţa Fraţilă; Adrian Trif

The objective of this paper is to predict and analyze the surface roughness during dry turning of austenitic stainless steel AISI 304. In this study a new carbide insert developed by Mitsubishi was used for the cutting of this material. By using the ANOVA method, the influence of the main processing parameters on the surface quality was analyzed. By using a mathematical regression method a mathematical model was developed. It can calculate the surface roughness taking into account the cutting speed, the feed rate and the depth of cutting.

The Accuracy of the Plastic Parts Milling Process Executed by a Six Axes Robot

Alexandru Popan; Nicolae Bâlc; Bogdan Luca; Alina Popan; Alexandru Carean

The objective of this paper is to analyze the precision of plastic parts made by using robot milling. Currently, the robots have good precision, rigidity, flexibility and they are able to machine parts. By using a six axis Kuka robot and an electric spindle, a plastic part was milled. The paper presents the advantages and disadvantages of this new technology, analyzing the dimensional accuracy, surface quality and costs.

Custom Implants: Manufacturing Principles and Determination of Psychological Price

Cristina Ștefana Miron-Borzan; Alina Popan; Vasile Adrian Ceclan; Adrian Popescu; Petru Berce

This paper presents the basic principle for achieving a custom implant from biocompatible materials with the human body using Additive Manufacturing technologies. Due the fact that is a new product which will be introduced on the market, a marketing study was needed. This study presents also the mathematical, analytical and graphical modeling of the psychological price, for a custom implant type cranioplasty / hip prosthesis / spinal implant. The assessment of psychological price for a custom cranioplasty implant, that is not the object through curative Romanian health programs, bring relevant information on the knowledge of maximum and minimum limits that the purchasers, potential consumers, are willing to accept, so the price at which the proportion of consumers potential is the greatest.

How the Crystallization Process in Metal Casting is Influenced by the Mold Filling and Cooling Methods

Nicolae Panc; Nicolae Bâlc; Alina Popan

The paper presents a case study on a aluminium part obtained by three different casting methods: die casting, investment casting and sand casting. The article analyzes the mold filling method, solidification time and crystal structure type obtained for each casting process. The purpose was to obtaine more homogenous crystalline structure of the cast parts, with better mechanical properties. The mold filling method with molten metal and heat transfer method influences the mechanical properties of the cast parts.

Using Simulation to Improve the Quality of the Metallic Industrial Components Made by Rapid Casting

Alina Popan; Nicolae Bâlc; Alexandru Popan; Nicolae Panc; Cristina Stefana Borzan

Industrial parts with complex shapes are characterized by thin sections and complex geometries. Rapid vacuum casting is an ideal technology to manufacture complicated parts in small series production or prototypes. Contributions regarding simulation and analyzing of the parts made by rapid vacuum casting technology are presented in this study. Using dedicated software for simulating the casting process was analyzed and optimized the time of casting, the complete filling with material and also reducing the surface defects.

CNC Machining Of The Complex Copper Electrodes

Ioan Alexandru Popan; Nicolae Balc; Alina Popan

Abstract This paper presents the machining process of the complex copper electrodes. Machining of the complex shapes in copper is difficult because this material is soft and sticky. This research presents the main steps for processing those copper electrodes at a high dimensional accuracy and a good surface quality. Special tooling solutions are required for this machining process and optimal process parameters have been found for the accurate CNC equipment, using smart CAD/CAM software.
