Effects of supplementary cementitious materials on mechanical and durability properties of high-performance non-shrinking grout (HPNSG)

Alireza Joshaghani; Mohammad Amin Moeini; Mohammad Balapour; Alireza Moazenian

High-performance non-shrinking grout (HPNSG) is a high strength material designed for precision grouting and general construction applications. The main purpose of this research study is to develop HPNSG using fly ash, slag, and silica fume. These supplementary cementitious materials were tested in different replacement percentages by examining mechanical and durability properties. Both fresh and hardened properties of grouts were assessed. The compressive strength, shrinkage, dynamic modulus of elasticity, electrical resistance, shrinkage, and abrasion of the grouts were tested. The compressive strength increased with increasing slag and silica fume content, which is attributed to the higher pozzolanic reactivity of these materials than that of fly ash and pumice. However, the effect of incorporating materials into grout mixtures was very slight at early ages. By passing the time, C–S–H gel grew outward from the cement particles and resulted in less porosity.

Experimental Study on the Use of Trass as a Supplementary Cementitious Material in Pervious Concrete

Alireza Joshaghani; Alireza Moazenian; Richard Abubakar Shuaibu

The purpose of this paper is to evaluate the suitability of using trass as a supplementary cementing material in pervious concrete. OPC (Ordinary Portland Cement) was replaced in the concrete mix by 15%, 25% and 35% weight percentages and the results were compared with reference mixtures with 100% Portland cement. The variables in this study were trass content, aggregate size and water to cement ratio. Sixteen cases of concrete mixtures were tested to study physical and mechanical properties of hardened concrete, including porosity, permeability, compressive strength, splitting-tensile strength and flexural strength at various ages. Results indicated that mechanical properties of the pervious concrete marginally decreased with the increased content of trass when compared to the reference mixtures. However, at later ages the differences were insignificant.

Identifying the problematic areas with structural deficiencies of pavements using non-destructive tests (NDT)

Alireza Joshaghani

ABSTRACT The damage that frequently occurs on pavements will affect the safety and comfort of road users. Road surface conditions’ assessment is a way to determine the type of program evaluation that needs to be done. The purpose of this research was to assess the structural conditions of pavements with non-destructive tests, such as pavement condition index , falling weight deflectometer, total pavements acceptance device and ground penetrating radar. The descriptive study was conducted to compare the road conditions’ assessment data that resulted from different methods for analysing the results of the road evaluation. This study was carried out at Victoria Regional Airport and focused on the analysis of the runway 13R that had two main sections.
