Many new deepwater, subsalt Gulf of Mexico developments are afflicted by poor imaging caused by the complex nature of their salt overburdens. The Atlantis Field is an example; a poor image of its northern flank hindered development. The ocean-bottom seismic (OBS) autonomous node method was applied with the goal of substantially improving the subsalt reservoir image.
