SummaryNickel(II) complexes of the Schiff base derivatives of isatin with glycine, β-alanine, anthranilic acid, S-methyl hydrazine carbodithioate, the ammonium salt of hydrazine carbodithioate, thiosemicarbazide, and benzoyl hydrazine, and nickel(II) complexes of 6-formyl-7-hydroxy-5-methoxy-2-methyl chromonelideneS-methyl hydrazine carbodithioate and benzoyl hydrazone, were prepared and characterized by elemental analysis, i.r., u.v.-vis spectra and magnetic measurements. All the complexes are octahedral.

Abstract The base-adducts of nickel(II) complexes of S-methyl hydrazine carbodithioate Schiff bases with 2,2′-bipyridyl and 1,10-phenanthroline are prepared and isolated in benzene and acetonitrile, and analysed. Structures are suggested on the basis of IR and electronic spectra. Adduct formation with 2,2′-bipyridyl has been studied in a dichloro-ethane solution, spectrophotometrically. The results obtained suggest the formation of the cis -octahedral monoadduct.

SummaryNew Cr(III), Mn(II), Co(II), Ni(II), Cu(II), Zn(II), Cd(II), and Pb(II) chelates of the Schiff base derived from isatin witho-phenylenediamine have been synthesized and characterized on the basis of elemental analyses, electronic, IR and1H NMR spectra, and also by aid of molar conductivity and magnetic moment measurements. It has been found that the Schiff base behaves as ONNO tetradentate dibasic ligand forming chelates with 1:1 (metal:ligand) stoichiometry. Square planar environment is suggested for nickel(II) chelate. All the metal chelates show non-electrolytic behaviour.

Abstract The following complexes have been prepared and characterized by elemental analysis, IR and visible-UV spectroscopy and by determination of magnetic moments : [ML2(H2O)2] M = Fe(II), Ni(II), [FeClL2(H2O)], [CuL2] (HL = isatin-glycine or isatin-β-alanine); [CoL2] (HL = isatin-β-alanine). The coordination is octahedral for M = Fe(II), Fe(III) and Ni(II), tetrahedral for M = Co(II), and square planar for M = Cu(II).

Abstract Metal chelates of the chlorides and acetates of Ni(II), Co(II), Cu(II), Cr(III), Fe(III) and Mn(II) with N,N′-bis(indol-2-oxo-3-ylidene)-1,3-diaminopropane were prepared and characterized by analytical, conductivity, magnetic, 1H NMR, infrared and electronic spectral data. It was found that the ligand acts as neutral, dinegative ONNO quadridentate, yielding neutral and cationic complexes. Magnetic and spectral data suggest a square-planar structure for the Ni(II) and Co(II) chelates, an octahedral one for the Mn(II), Fe(III) and Cr(III) chelates and a dimeric penta-coordinate structure for the Cu(II) chelate. Abstract Metal(II) chelates of the Schiff base ligand derived from 2-formylcyclohexanone with o-phenylenediamine have been prepared and characterized. The isolated complexes are of the type ML.xH2O where M = Ni(II), Cu(II), Co(II), Zn(II), Pb(II), and UO2(VI) and where H2L stands for the bis(2-formylcyclohexylidene)-o-phenylenediamine Schiff base ligand. A trinuclear Cu(II) complex of the formula Cu2L2.CuCl2.3H2O was also prepared. The chelates were characterized by elemental analyses, IR, 1H NMR and UV-Visible spectra as well as conductivity and magnetic measurements. It has been found that the ligand behaves as an ONNO quadridentate, dibasic chelate and that the complexes are non-electrolytes in DMF. The mode of bonding and geometrical structure are suggested. Abstract A series of La(III), Ce(III), Th(IV), Uo2(II), Ag(I) and Hg(II) chelates with the Schiff base derived from isatin with o-phenylenediamine have been prepared and characterized by elemental analyses, 1H NMR, IR, UV-visible spectra and molar conductivity measurements. Analytical and other spectroscopic studies revealed that the Schiff base ligand reacts with the metal ions in 1:1 (metal : ligand) stoichiometry as dibasic tetradentate ligand through its ONNO ligating atoms. A non-electrolytic nature is suggested for these chelates except for that of Ag(I).

SummaryNiII and CuII complexes of 5-aryl-2-phenyl-6H-pyrazolo-[1,5-C]pyrimidine-7-thiones were prepared and characterized by elemental analysis, i.r, u.v.-vis. spectra, molar conductivities and magnetic measurements. Spectral and magnetic data suggest a square-planar structure for nickle(II) complexes.

Abstract The entitled transition metal complexes were produced via the interaction of the chloride salts of Fe(III), Co(II), Ni(II) and Cu(II) with Alizarin Yellow R, alone and mixed with pyrogallol in aqueous media and in the presence of ammonia except Fe(III). The characterization of these complexes was achieved using microchemical analyses, infrared and Nujol mull electronic spectra. They were neutral with no chloride ions either in or outside the coordination sphere, all with melting points higher than 300°C. It was deduced that the active donating sites of the ligands towards the central metal ion were the phenolate and carboxylate oxygen atoms with no participation of the azo nitrogen in chelation. Oxygen bridges were involved in the homo and hetero Cu(II) complexes. Also, the participation of the neutral molecules (i.e. H2O, NH3) and hydroxyl ions in the composition of these complexes were observed. An octahedral spatial configuration was suggested for these metal chelates.

Abstract La(III), Ce(III), Th(IV) and U(VI) complexes of 3-hydroxy-2-quinolone (H2L1), 4-phenyl-3-hydroxy-2-quinolone (H2L2) and N-methyl-4-phenyl-3-hydroxy-2-quinolone (HL3) have been prepared. They were characterized by elemental analyses, infrared and electronic absorption measurements. A polymeric structure is suggested.
