Infantile autism: impact of diagnosis and repercussions in family relationships.

Objective To analyse the context in which the diagnosis of autism is revealed and the impact of this revelation on family relationships. Methods This is a qualitative study with 10 families of autistic children assisted at the Psychosocial Care Centre for Children and Youths in a municipality of Paraíba. Data were collected between July and August 2013 through semi-structured interviews and interpreted using thematic content analysis. Results The identified Main Unit of Analysis and the respective categories were: the impact of disclosing the diagnosis of autism to the family; characteristics of diagnosis disclosure: the place, time, and the dialogic relationship between the professional and the family; changes in family relationships and the mothers burden when caring for the autistic child. Conclusions The health professionals who report autism should better prepare the family to cope with the difficulties of this syndrome and autonomously care for the autistic child.

Histórias de cuidados entre idosos institucionalizados: as práticas integrativas como possibilidades terapêuticas

Aim: to understand the stories of care and the implications of using foot reflexology in the elderly. Method: action research, in which foot reflexology sessions were conducted in elderly residents of a long-stay institution located within Paraiba. The production and analysis of the narratives were made from March to June 2012, through thematic oral story, which originated three themes: The pains of body and soul, Teas and massages, Care through the feet. Results: diffuse pain and sleep difficulties were the main complaints reported, for which the elderly used teas and massage as therapeutic resources. Besides alleviating the previously mentioned problems, the realization of reflexology provided well-being, relaxation, anxiety relief and improved quality of sleep. Final considerations: the integrative practices enable a comprehensive care to the elderly, since they are easy to apply and promote relaxation and well-being

Objectives: To explain the changes in the family due Empty Nest Syndrome. Method: exploratory and descriptive study, conducted through integrative literature, using scientific publications available in the databases LILACS, SciELO and MEDLINE between the years 2004 to 2012, with the final sample of 08 articles. Results: The research points to the deficiency of the front thematic publication in question, it is substantial to understand and / or know the Empty Nest Syndrome, etiology, co-morbidities and the impact that it causes in the family environment. Most articles were produced by professional psychologists, revealing ignorance or disinterest on the part of other professionals in addressing this issue. Conclusion: Given this, the Empty Nest Syndrome is expressed as a disorder of contemporary

O cuidado de enfermagem a crianças com retardo mental: uma revisão integrativa

The present study aims to show the importance of nursing care to children with mental retardation. For this, an integrative review was carried in the following databases: Scientific Electronic Library Online (Scielo) and the Literature Latin American and Caribbean Health Sciences (LILACS), using the articles of the period 2000 to 2011 freely available. We located 24 initial articles of which just 11 were included in the study by showing that better are adequate the theme addressed by the researchers. The results show that there is a lack of publications on nursing care to the child who has mental retardation. We observed in our studies that is possible provide a better quality of life of these children through the intervention of nurses and other professionals involved in care. It is function of the multidisciplinary team to minimize complications, provide the appropriate treatment to children and support families to better adapt to new conditions of life.
