Selection of germplasm /genotypes based on visual observation for different polygenic traits is less rewarding. In this context, selection of superior rice genotypes by assigning ranks to each genotype for various quantitative traits followed by rank correlation was estimated and it was observed that two multiple regression equation involving eight and four quantitative traits exhibited similar efficiency, indicated that four characters viz. panicle length, number of primary branches, L/B ratio and 1000 grain weight were the best characters for formulating selection criteria. Top ten genotypes identified on the basis of selection score were TCA-88-1, TCA88-3, TCA88-2, TCA88-81-1, TCA88-57-3, TCA88-10-1, TCA88-13-2, TCA88-79-2, TCA88-22 and TCA88-44-1. These genotypes found to be suitable for grain yield and components traits may be selected for further evaluation and utilization in rice improvement programme of north Bihar condition.

Effect of different oil cakes along with bioagents/nematicide was evaluated on root knot nematode (Meloidogyne spp.) and root nodulation in lentil verity K-75. The results revealed that combination of oil cakes (neem cake, mahua cake, groundnut cake, sunflower cake) along with carbosulfan (nematicide) was found very effective on both reducing nematode population and increasing root nodulation in lentil. It have also found in lowering down the disease of fusarium wilt and root knot complex on lentil verity K-75 with different parameters viz., root lengths (8.13, 8.50, 7.51, 6.67 cm), root weight (4.36, 4.52, 4.15, 3.21), shoot length (36.68, 37.45, 34.75, 29.37 cm), shoot weight (17.12, 14.72, 12.43, 10.52 gm), root knot index(0.95, 1.00, 0.85, 1.00), minimum no. of root gall per plant (15.10, 20.00, 46.20, 20.20), maximum no. of rhizobium nodules per plant (50.00, 52.05, 65.10, 42.05) and minimum nematode population( 30.26, 31.15, 30.15, 25.56 ). Out of four cakes combination with different bioagents the best results have been found in neem cake followed by mahua cake.

Summary For the experiment, four different wheat varieties were selected of which two were Zn-efficient (GW190 and LOK-1) and two Zn-inefficient (GW399 and GW-403) varieties having three levels viz., 0, 10 and 20 mg Zn kg -1 through zinc sulphate (21% Zn) with standard NPK fertilization. The cultivars were grown in pots (6, 7 and 10 kg capacity) upto three stages viz., 20, 50 days after germination (DAG) and upto maturity. The experiment was laid out in a Factorial Completely Randomized Design (FCRD) and treatments were repeated thrice for all three stages. The varietal trend of root Zn content was observed in order as; GW399>GW403>GW190>LOK-1. The root Fe content was observed in order as LOK-1>GW190> GW399>GW403. The Mn content was observed as in order GW403>LOK-1> GW399>GW190. The varietal trend for root content Cu was found as in order GW190>GW403>LOK-1>GW399.
