Reversible ion-pair extraction in a biphasic system. application in transition metal-catalyzed isomerization of allylic compounds

Yoel Sasson; Amikam Zoran; Jochanan Blum

Abstract A two-liquid-phase catalysis is described in which aqueous metal halides of Group VIII are used for the isomerization of water-insoluble allylic compounds. With the aid of quaternary ammonium or phosphonium salts, the metal catalyst is extracted into the reagent-containing phase and returned to the aqueous layer by lipophilic anions upon completion of the catalytic process.

Tetrahedron Letters | 1983

Catalytic hydrogenation of olefins, acetylenes and arenes by rhodium trichloride and aliquat-336 under phase transfer conditions

Jochanan Blum; Ibrahim Amer; Amikam Zoran; Yoel Sasson

Abstract The ion pair formed from aqueous rhodium trichloride and aliquat-336 in dichloroethane catalyzes hydrogenation of a variety of unsaturated compounds. Aromatics are reduced to cyclohexane derivatives under exceedingly mild conditions.

Journal of Molecular Catalysis | 1984

Catalytic transfer hydrogenation of unsaturated compounds by solid sodium formate in the presence of palladium on carbon

Amikam Zoran; Yoel Sasson; Jochanan Blum

Abstract Solid sodium formate is an efficient hydrogen donor for Pd/C-catalyzed transfer hydrogenation of olefins, acetylenes and nitro compounds in the presence of an equimolar amount of water at exceedingly mild conditions. The reaction proceeds mainly by a direct hydrogen transfer mechanism rather than via initial decomposition of the formate into molecular hydrogen and carbon dioxide.

Dichlorobis(triphenylphosphine)palladium(II)-promoted hydrogenolysis of aryl bromides by benzyl alcohol under phase transfer conditions

Amikam Zoran; Yoel Sasson; Jochanan Blum

Abstract Aryl bromides are conveniently dehalogenated with benzyl alcohol and sodium hydroxide in a two-liquid phase system in the presence of a palladium-triphenylphosphine catalyst. Phase transfer catalysts have a significant effect on the efficiency of the hydrogenolysis.
