A series of 5-substituted 1H-tetrazole were efficiently prepared by InCl3 catalyzed (10 mol %) from structurally divert organic nitriles with sodium azide under the influence of microwave irradiation. The present protocol was successfully applied to the aliphatic, aryl, benzylic and heterocyclic nitriles and corresponding 5-substituted 1H-tetrazole were obtained in good to excellent yield (70-96%). This method gives remarkable advantages such as short reaction time, simple work-up procedure and economical beneficial.

We report a rapid method of green chemistry approach for synthesis of gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) using Lagerstroemia speciosa leaf extract (LSE). L. speciosa plant extract is known for its effective treatment of diabetes and kidney related problems. The green synthesis of AuNPs was complete within 30min at 25°C. The same could also be achieved within 2min at a higher reaction temperature (80°C). Both UV-visible spectroscopy and transmission electron microscopy results suggest that the morphology and size distribution of AuNPs are dependent on the pH of gold solution, gold concentration, volume of LSE, and reaction time and temperature. Comparison between Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR) spectra of LSE and the synthesized AuNPs indicate an active role of polyphenolic functional groups (from gallotannins, lagerstroemin, and corosolic acid) in the green synthesis and capping of AuNPs. The green route synthesized AuNPs show strong photocatalytic activity in the reduction of dyes viz., methylene blue, methyl orange, bromophenol blue and bromocresol green, and 4-nitrophenol under visible light in the presence of NaBH4. The non-toxic and cost effective LSE mediated AuNPs synthesis proposed in this study is extremely rapid compared to the other reported methods that require hours to days for complete synthesis of AuNPs using various plant extracts. Strong and stable photocatalytic behavior makes AuNPs attractive in environmental applications, particularly in the reduction of organic pollutants in wastewater.

A developed method based upon impregnation of Isonitroso-4-methyl-2-pentanone (HIMP) as extractant on Amberlite XAD-4 for Th4+ enrichment and spectrophotometric determination in a variety of samples were reported. This Extractant Impregnated Resin (EIR) sorbent is characterized by Fourier Transforms-Infrared Spectrometer (FT-IR), Field Emission-Scanning Electron Microscope (FE-SEM), and Brunauer-Emmett-Teller (BET) analysis. The EIR packed in column was studied for various parameters to optimize sorption desorption condition for Th4+. Sorption of Th4+ from aqueous solution onto EIR was studied and equilibrium isotherms, kinetics were determined. These investigations facilitate its determination in different real samples. The developed method was validated by analyzing lake sediment standard reference material (IAEA-SL-1).

This paper reports the novel synthesis of uranyl sulphide (UO2S) thin films using the successive ionic layer adsorption and reaction (SILAR) technique at room temperature. Cationic exchange reaction was used to convert uranyl sulphide (UO2S) to silver sulphide (Ag2S). The influence of concentration variation on the structural and optical properties of UO2S and Ag2S thin films was investigated. The structural, surface morphological, elemental analysis and optical absorption studies were performed. Structural studies revealed that all the deposited films were nano-sized and amorphous in nature. Surface morphology showed that all the grains were spherical and granular in nature and grains got conglomerated to form a large particle. Also, the variations of the optical band gap and the width of the tail of localized states were represented as a function of various parameters.

An expeditious, one-pot method for the synthesis of 3,4-dihydropyrimidin-2(1H)-ones using a mixture of phosphorus pentoxide-methanesulfonic acid (Eatons reagent) at room temperature under solvent-free conditions is described. The salient features of this method include short reaction time, green aspects, high yields, and simple procedure.

Viscosity (η), Density (ρ) and Ultrasonic velocities (U) are reported for binary mixtures of Formamide (FA), NMethylformamide (MFA) and N, N-Dimethylformamide (DMF) in an aqueous medium over an entire range of compositions at 298.15K and atmospheric pressure. From the experimental data obtained, viscosity deviation (∆η), deviation in isentropic compressibility (∆Ks) and excess properties like excess molar volume (V), excess intermolecular free length (Lf), excess available volume (Va) and excess internal pressure (πi) have been calculated and are fitted to Redlich-Kister type polynomial equation. The results obtained are interpreted in terms of molecular interactions among the studied amide solutions. The deviation from ideal mixing law in all calculated parameters are negative except deviation in viscosity and deviation in excess internal pressure for Nmethylformamide and N,N-dimethylformamide-Water mixtures. This reveals the nature and magnitude of intermolecular interactions between unlike molecules and effect of –CH3 in amides. Substitution of -H by -CH3 at the N site caused a noticeable effect on the excess parameters.
