This article presents an empirical study on the effectiveness of the use of an audience response system called SIstema De Respuesta inmediata de la Audiencia on a nursing course. A total of 130students of mixed gender, age, and computer experience and educational background on a third-year course in nursing administration and management participated in the study. The benefits of an audience response system as regards learning how to confront emergency situations were studied. The innovative aspect of the proposal is twofold: (1) the use of a smartphone to respond to the questions and (2) the analysis of the students’ response time when confronting critical situations while managing nursing resources. A positive impact on the students’ performance was revealed in their final assessments. Our findings show that SIstema De Respuesta inmediata de la Audiencia increases student participation and aids in identifying and correcting misconceptions. The students found SIstema De Respuesta inmediata de la Audiencia to be very motivating and wanted it to be used in additional lectures. Further research is required to study the effectiveness of SIstema De Respuesta inmediata de la Audiencia for it to be widely used in other disciplines.

Encuesta de opinión sobre el uso de historias personales de salud en la Región de Murcia

José Luis Fernández Alemán; Ana Belén Sánchez García

OBJECTIVE To identify the opinions of patients of the Murcia Health Service on the adoption of personal health records (PHRs) and the factors associated with these opinions. METHODS A cross sectional and descriptive study was performed by personal survey of a sample of individuals (N=156) aged between 14 and 80 years old in five public health facilities of districts VI and VII of the Health Service of Murcia. RESULTS A total of 87.8% of the population stated they would use PHRs. Respondents aged 24-33 years old were 13.15 times more willing to use PHRs (95% CI: 1.09-157.42) than people over 63 years old. A lower probability of using PHRs was found in people who did not use the Internet, with an odds ratio of 0.31 (95% CI: 0.07-1.29); this difference was not statistically significant. CONCLUSIONS Most of the patients surveyed had never heard of PHRs but most would be willing to use them.

Juan José Rodríguez Mondéjar; Ana Belén Sánchez García; José Luis Fernández Alemán

This paper aims at evaluating new educational resources which help instructors and students to achieve the goals of the Higher Education European Space. This study presents the results of a feedback survey based on a pilot experience which proposes a web environment to assist in the learning process of Medical Surgical Nursing in an undergraduate degree program. A web-based automatic assessment tool named Mooshak was used by 54 students who voluntarily participated in the study. Five of these students solved all the problems proposed. A total of 16 (28.57%) students answered an on-line survey, 15 of them agreed that the experience with Mooshak had been

José Luis Fernández-Alemán; Chrisina Jayne; Ana Belén Sánchez García; Juan Manuel Carrillo-de-Gea; Ambrosio Toval Álvarez

This paper presents a neural network-based intelligent data analysis for knowledge clustering in an undergraduate nursing course. A MCQ (Multiple Choice Question) test was performed to evaluate medical-surgical nursing knowledge in a second-year course. A total of 23 pattern groups were created from the answers of 208 students. Data collected were used to provide customized feedback which guide students towards a greater understanding of particular concepts. The pattern groupings can be integrated with an on-line (MCQ) system for training purposes.

In order to make an impact on citizens’ lives, projects within the framework of Smart Cities shall address - along with safety and transportation issues – shared services based on novel as well as creative applications that exploit Future Internet platforms and relevant network infrastructures. It is individual creativity, skills and talents, which lie at the crossroads between arts, business and technology, that provide a strong competitive advantage in novel applications aiming at the production and the commercialization of creative content. The vision of the SPECIFI project for European Creative Rings is presented in this paper. Creative communities are in most cases isolated from their counterparts in other cities having no access to Future Internet technologies and solutions. SPECIFI proposes the use of Creative Rings as a means of sharing creative and innovative content and enabling internet activities all over Europe. Thus Creative Rings intend to bring together infrastructure solutions that facilitate the use of future internet systems and applications. Creative Industries may experiment and deploy these systems and take advantage of the distribution of innovative content. Creative Rings are presented herein in terms of scenarios, infrastructures and applications.
