This study aimed to know the experience of adolescents in labor insertion process. The participants were 10 adolescents of both sexes, aged 15 and 16 years old, with an apprenticeship contract at a public enterprise. It was used a qualitative approach, with the application of a biosociodemographic questionnaire and focal groups. Four thematic categories were created: being adolescent, apprentice versus worker, meaning of work and professional future. The results revealed fusion between the worker and apprentice roles. The experience of apprenticeship was perceived as a privileged practice for professional training. Expectancies about the professional future revealed insecurity and lack of information related to labor market. This study showed the importance of the experience of apprenticeship to build worker identities and of counseling programs for adolescents.

Cognitive deficits have been recognized as a core feature of schizophrenia (SZ) and are present in most patients. Verbal memory (VM), working memory (WM), and executive function (EF) are domains commonly impaired in patients with SZ. These latter domains have been related to the genetic risk of the disorder characterizing as possible endophenotypes. In order to study neurocognitive endophenotypes in a Brazilian population with elevated genetic risks to develop SZ, we measured VM (Hopkins Verbal Learning Test Revised), WM (Letter-Number Sequencing and Digit Span) and EF (Stroop Test) in 90 subjects (45 unaffected siblings of patients with SZ and 45 matched healthy controls). No differences were found in EF and WM (Letter-Number Sequencing and Digit Span). However, in VM, siblings of patients performed worse than controls on the immediate recall and delayed recall. Our results suggest that VM impairment could be considered an endophenotype of SZ.

This study investigate the opinion and the experience of adolescents about their rights to respect and privacy, and protection from physical violence within the family. Participants were 50 teenagers from 12 to 18 years in the Metropolitan Region of Porto Alegre. The instruments used were the Self-Report Inventory on the Situation of the Rights and the Rights Knowledge Questionnaire. 32.7% reported violation of their rights of privacy and respect, and 50%, violation of the protection against physical violence. There was no significant difference between the group that suffered many rights violations and the one that suffered a few, in relation to the opinion on these specific rights, although, the group that suffered more violations showed a stronger support for campaigns for the protection against those violations. These results indicated the importance of creating spaces that allow the participation and discussion of adolescents’ ideas about their rights.O objetivo deste estudo foi investigar a opiniao e a vivencia de adolescentes acerca dos direitos ao respeito e privacidade, e a protecao contra a violencia fisica no âmbito familiar.

In spite of being the numerical majority in the country, for centuries women have occupied a subordinate position in Brazilian society. In recent years, the country has elected (and reelected) its first female president. However, despite all the advances, many of women’s fundamental rights are still disregarded. Women receive lower remuneration than men do, even when they hold the same work positions and perform similar activities. Black women face a far more extreme situation and are exposed to the worst conditions in the country’s labor market due to double discrimination. Violence against women is considered a social and health problem. The main context of violence against women is familial/domestic, where their partners perpetrate psychological, physical, and sexual abuse. The situation of women’s rights is far from ideal but the changes occurring for Brazilian women over recent decades in education, work, and social and political participation have been positive and increased rights guaranteed to women. Nevertheless, advances are still needed, especially in political participation, for women to occupy more space where decisions are made and to seek even more improvements for their lives and rights.
