The development of flexible, reusable and interoperable LMSs has increasingly attracted the attention of the e-learning community. Considering these issues, the TIDIA-Ae project has been proposing a component-based solution for LMSs development. This article presents a development case study according to the TIDIA-Aes component-based architecture, whose activity was the development of the Portfolio and Weblog tools. The main artifacts obtained in the development process, the solutions adopted for the open issues and the main learned lessons are presented.

Weblogs are communication and collaborative tools disposed in Web that aims to publish texts and sharing opinions, typically displaying the post in reverse chronological order, and allowing visitors to leave comments. Since devices equipped with pen are becoming common, such as tablets, and have enough computational power to render Web pages, users can access blog tools through pen-based devices, writing new posts and read and comment published posts. But tablets have a different input style and the user need to type the post instead of handwriting it, decreasing the usability and make boring the writing task in these devices. Pen-based computing refers to a computer user-interface using a pen, rather than devices such as a keyboard or a mouse, and is a promise research area to enhance Education, but it is need to properly consider the pen. We purpose the InkBlog, a blog tool that receive input data from pen so that the user can handwriting her posts. In this work we present the InkBlog architecture and the main component, the InkEditor for Web pages. Using InkBlog the user can write equations or sketches faster than using a mouse or a keyboard, getting the best of the pen-based devices.

Mobile Assisted Language Learning consists of using the mobile devices with the purpose of supporting the acquisition of languages. We aim to investigate how different people use mobile applications (apps) on their own initiative and out of a formal educational to improve language skills (Speaking, Listening, Reading and Writing). In this exploratory work, we present how a particular user interacts with 18 different interlocutors, both English native and non-native English speakers in three months using the app Tandem to improve him/her English proficiency. We analyzed these interactions to find (i) usability issues which may interfere on the productive and satisfactory use of the app and (ii) potential learning situations, discussing about the feasibility and the efficiency of mobile learning in the language acquisition. We found 4 types of interventions that promoted some kind of learning and some difficulties related to the app’s usability.

Nowadays, instant information access is very important and applications for m-learning has gained space. In this paper, we investigate a way to make TelEduc e-learning environment responsive with a mobile application (mlearning). In order do accomplish this goal, we studied two hybrid frameworks to choose the best one.

In this project we investigate notifications in e-learning environments for mobile devices (m-learning). We describe a mechanism to implement notifications on mobile devices using Firebase Cloud Messaging (FCM), as well as an experiment with FCM.

Este artigo discute, com base na analise da interacao entre duas pessoas jogando damas por meio de tablet e tabuleiro, como (i) as diferencas entre as regras usadas pelo modelo conceitual da versao digital e as regras do modelo conceitual do jogador, construidas a partir de experiencias previas, e (ii) como as diferencas no modo de interacao entre jogador/interface e jogador/tabuleiro, podem interferir no padrao interativo que se estabelece entre o jogador/interface, por meio da modalidade de toque e, consequentemente, como esses dois fatores podem impactar a usabilidade da versao digital do jogo de damas.
