It was determined for the fig trees pruned in July, August, September and October, the most minimum and maximum basic temperatures, the thermal sum express in degree-days and the influence of the temperature in the duration of the period between the prune and the beginning of the harvest, in Botucatu - SP, from 2002 to 2006. The estimated values of minimum and maxim basal temperature were 8oC and 36 oC, respectively. The prune periods that presented better results in seasonal variation and productivity were August and July, and it was necessary a medium thermal sum of 1955 and 2200 degree-days.

Yield and fruit quality of ‘Paluma’ guava pruned at different times in subtropical climate The aim of this work was to evaluate the yield and fruit quality of the ‘Paluma’ guava subjected to drastic pruning, in different months, at Sao Manuel Experimental Farm FCA/UNESP, Botucatu Campus-SP, Brazil. The experiment was carried out in a complete randomized design with four treatments and 10 replications, with one plant per plot. The treatments consisted of: T1: no pruning, T2: pruning in August, T3: pruning in September and T4: pruning in October. The following characteristics were measured: number of fruits, yield per tree, weight of fruits, longitudinal and transversal diameters, total soluble solid content (SS), titratable acidity (TA), SS/TA and pH. Regarding the number of days between the beginning and end of the harvest (productive period), the pruning, regardless of the time, increased the harvest period when compared with non-pruned plants (control). The guava plants pruned in August showed higher number of fruits (385) and yield per plant (58.82 kg / plant), differing from the other pruning times. The total soluble solid contents, titratable acidity, pH and SS/TA of the fruits were not influenced by pruning times.

ABSTRACT- The aim of this study was to assess carbon-13 turnover in different organs of the fig tree, ‘Roxo de Valinhos’ cultivar. The experiment was carried out in an orchard at School of Agronomical Sci-ences, FCA/UNESP, Botucatu Campus, State of Sao Paulo, Brazil. The main photosynthetically active leaf was previously determined based on gas exchanges by means of an open portable photosynthesis system, IRGA. That leaf was placed in a chamber where the enriched gas injection occurred. The leaf enrichment time was 30 minutes. Treatments were constituted of seven fig trees removed from the soil after: 6; 24; 48; 72; 120; 168 and 360 hours of enrichment using 13 C, and their parts were sectioned into: apical bud, young leaves, adult leaves (photosynthetically active), lateral sprouts, fruits, and branch. The results allowed the establishment of the carbon-13 metabolism sequence in the studied parts: Young leaves > Fruits > Sprouts > Adult leaves > Apical bud > branch > Labeled leaf.

IPES SEEDLINGS GROWTH IN DIFFERENT SHADE SCREENS ABSTRACT It was aimed to evaluate the initial growth of Handroanthus serratifolius (Vahl) S. O. Grose. and Handroanthus ochraceus (Vahl) S. O. Grose. under black and colored shading screens. The study was conducted at the Department of Plant Production UFMT - SINOP with seminal seedlings germinated in B.O.D. and transplanted to pots with 8 liter capacity containing commercial substrate and fertilizer. The experimental array was completely randomized in a factorial 9 x 2 (covers x species) with 16 repetitions and the treatments: Full sun, black screens with 35, 50, 65 and 80%; red, blue and green color screens with 50%; and Aluminet silver screen with 50% retention of the global radiation. Analyses of the parameters height (cm), stem diameter (mm), number of leaves and spad index were performed every 20 days. The data were submitted to ANOVA and Tukey test 5%. H. serratifolius and H. ochraceus showed significant difference for all parameters except spad index. The conditions full sun and red screen provided the highest average in height (14.48 and 17.18 cm for H. serratifolius ; 3.95 and 3.94 cm for H. ochraceus ), diameter (2.90 and 3.04, H. serratifolius mm, 2.73 mm and 1.71, H. ochraceus ) and number of leaves (10,56 and 11,31 for H. serratifolius ; 10.75 and 9.94 for H. ochraceus ). The smaller significant average were found in blue cover. It was concluded that using black and colored shading screens influence the early development of seedlings of Handroanthus serratifolius and Handroanthus ochraceus.
