CYTOLYTIC HYBRIDS BETWEEN MURINE CTL-LINES AND MOUSE OR RAT THYMOMAS

Markus Nabholz; Andreas Conzelmann; Chantal Tougne; Patricia Corthesy; Augusto Silva

ABSTRACT Somatic cell hybrids between murine CTL-lines and AKR-thymomas belong to one of two types. Either they are like CTL-lines in their morphology, their capacity to lyse targets, their dependence on TCGF and their sensitivity to Vicia villosa (VV) lectin, or they resemble thymoma cells, and are cytolytically inactive TCGF-independent and VV resistant. Exposure of hybrids of this last type to Con A supernatant (CS) does not alter their phenotype. TCGF-independent hybrids between murine CTL-lines and a rat T-thymoma, on the other hand, acquire cytolytic capacity during culture in CS. This induction is reversible, and is not mediated by TCGF alone.
