Enterprise clouds apply the paradigm of cloud computing to enterprise IT infrastructures, with the goal of providing easy, flexible, and scalable access to both computing resources and IT services. Realizing the vision of the fully automated enterprise cloud involves addressing a range of technological challenges. In this paper, we focus on the challenges related to intelligent information management in enterprise clouds and discuss how semantic technologies can help to fulfill them. In particular, we address the topics of data integration, collaborative documentation and annotation and intelligent information access and analytics and present solutions that are implemented in the newest addition to our eCloudManager product suite: The Intelligence Edition.

Abstract The Author-Review-Execute (A-R-E) is an innovative concept to offer under a single principle and platform an environment to support the life cycle of an (executable) paper; namely the authoring of the paper, its submission, the reviewing process, the authors revisions, its publication, and finally the study (reading/interaction) of the paper as well as extensions (follow ups) of the paper. It combines Semantic Wiki technology, a resolver that solves links both between parts of documents to executable code or to data, an anonymizing component to support the authoring and reviewing tasks, and web services providing link perennity.

Cloud computing has become a generic umbrella term for the flexible delivery of IT resources—such as storage, computing power, software development platforms, and applications—as services over the Internet. The foremost innovation is that the IT infrastructure no longer lies with the user, breaking up the previously monolithic ownership and administrative control of its assets. The combination of cloud computing and semantic technologies holds great potential. In this chapter, we analyze three ways in which cloud computing and semantic technologies can be combined: (1) building on cloud computing technologies, e.g. from the area of distributed computing, to realize better semantic applications and enable semantic technologies to scale to ever larger data sets, (2) delivering semantic technologies as services in the cloud, and (3) using semantic technologies to improve cloud computing, in particular to further improve automatic data-center management. For each of these dimensions we identify challenges and opportunities, provide a survey, and present a research roadmap.

In this paper we present a web-based system for the semantic integration of biological data using a database model and an XML exchange format. The prototype developed integrates data related to enzymes.
