Effect of geometry modulation on the full dispersion diagram of a 2D periodic structure built in stripline technology

Ladislau Matekovits; Andrei-Marius Silaghi; A. De Sabata; M. S. Baderca; Ovidiu Lipan; P. A. Buta

The effects of geometry modulation applied to a periodic structure built in stripline technology are assessed by means of the dispersion diagrams calculated in the spectral, or k, plane by using a commercial electromagnetic eigenmode solver. Modifications of surfaces representing propagation modes, of electromagnetic band-gaps and of group velocities of Bloch waves following geometry modulation are outlined and explained.

The influence of measurement setups in radiated emissions testing

Andrei-Marius Silaghi; Catalin Balan; Emanuela Tolan; Aldo De Sabata

The Radiated emission measurement is one of the tests required in EMC testing. CISPR 25 standard specifies the frequency range and the antennas used for this purpose. In this paper, differences that appear when using different measurement antennas and different semi-anechoic chambers in radiated emissions testing on the same DUT are investigated. Results show sometimes significant differences that motivate further work on reducing uncertainties introduced by different measurement setups.

Measurement of radiated immunity in the automotive industry: Key concepts

Andrei-Marius Silaghi; Aldo De Sabata; Florin Alexa; Adrian Buta; Silviu Baderca

The radiated immunity measurement is one of the tests that covers electromagnetic compatibility testing. The purpose of the paper is to investigate the performance of an automotive DUT test in the presence of an electromagnetic field inside a semi-anechoic chamber. The test complies with the ISO 11452-2 Standard.

Measurement of radiated emissions from an automotive cluster

Andrei-Marius Silaghi; Emanuela Tolan; Aldo De Sabata; Adrian Buta

The radiated emissions measurement is one of the tests involved in Electromagnetic Compatibility testing. In this paper a measurement setup for radiated emissions from an automotive cluster is proposed. Assessment of correct operation of a device under test (DUT) according to the CISPR25 standard is reported. The test setup is based on measured data on different antennas that were performed in order to determine which one suits better in the given application.

Testing immunity to portable transmitters with helical antennas: Key concepts

Andrei-Marius Silaghi; Aldo De Sabata; Alexandru-Marius Silaghi

Radiated immunity testing in the automotive industry is an activity with ever increasing importance. Immunity tests are being performed in the semi-anechoic chamber of the EMC laboratory, within Continental Automotive Romania. Testing results rely on measurements performed by operators and nominal parameters of the equipment involved, which are input to the testing software. In this paper, we show how deviations of the equipment parameters from nominal values influence the testing outcomes. We performed measurements of impedance and VSWRs of antennas and directional couplers involved in EMC radiated immunity to portable transmitters testing. The results can be used for devising correction procedures for the testing software in order to improve the reliability of the tests.

Metamaterial based high impedance surface with band-pass frequency response

A. De Sabata; Ladislau Matekovits; Ildiko Peter; Ulrich L. Rohde; Andrei-Marius Silaghi

We introduce a metamaterial based parallel-plate waveguide, devised in microstrip technology that features two electromagnetic band-gaps. Since one of the band-gaps extends from zero frequency, the structure can be used as a band-pass filter. We perform a parametric study in view of facilitating design and optimisation.
