One-pot Graebe-Ullmann synthesis of γ-carbolines under microwave irradiation

Abstract One-pot efficient and simple synthesis of γ-carboline derivatives by the Graebe-Ullmann method was conducted in a commercial microwave oven in a few minutes at a low energy level and using erlenmeyer as adequate reaction vessels. Yields are similar to those obtained by conventional heating.

Abstract A series of new stable ylides has been synthesized by the reaction of N-[2-(1,3-benzazolylmethyl)]-pyridinium salts with electrophiles such as carbon disulphide, isothiocyanate derivatives, phenylisocyanate and benzoyl chloride in a two-phase system. Preparation of pyridinium ketene dithioacetal derivatives and attempts to transform them into N-(diheteroarylmethyl)pyridinium ylides are also described.

Azonia derivatives of the γ-carboline system. A new class of DNA intercalators

Abstract 1-Methyl-γ-carboline derivatives were transformed into the corresponding N-aminoazinium salts, which were condensed with 1,2-dicarbonyl compounds (Westphal reaction) to afford azonia derivatives with a bridgehead quaternary nitrogen atom. Some of them show DNA intercalating properties.

Abstract A series of N-methyl-2-oxoalkanesulfonamides was prepared by reaction between silyl enol ethers and N-Methylsulfonylimine. In all cases yields were comparatively higher to those obtained by a previously described procedure
