In vivo pharmacokinetics of radioiodinated urokinase plasminogen activator (UPA) inhibitors for imaging metastatic cancer

A twenty-fi ve year old female presented at the Nuclear Medicine Department for a Bone Scan. She complained of pain in her right lower back which radiated into her right hip. This had been progressing over the last seven months. A CT from an external practice showed an expansile lesion in the right superior articular process of the second lumbar vertebra on the right, which measured 15 mm × 10 mm × 13 mm. This was confi rmed on an MRI scan with fl uid and infl ammation in the para spinal muscles on the right. This was thought to be an osteoblastoma. The bone scan was requested to fi nd out if there were any secondaries which would then dictate what treatment the patient would need.
