On the central part of the Velebit Mountain the traces of the Pleistocene glaciation have been found. The domination of the dissected relief, characterized by numerous elevations and depressions, in the conditions of low temperatures and richess of snow precipitation during the Pleistocene were a very good predisposition for glaciation development on the central part of the Velebit Mt.

This chapter deals with main geomorphological properties of Croatia. The key elements of the geological predispositions are outlined as well as those of geodynamic evolution which, in conjunction with numerous exogenous processes, result in recent landform development. The main points of all important exogenous processes and landforms are presented: coastal, fluvial and fluvio-denudation, slope, aeolian and polygenetic. The main attention has been paid to karst and fluviokarst which cover almost 44% of the territory (the submerged karst excluded) therefore numerous recent research topics are outlined such as the development of structural geomorphological methods in karst, the research on coastal karst, glaciokarst, karst denudation measurements and cave microclimate. All this made a good basis for a detailed geomorphological regionalisation given in the chapter as well.

As both Middle-European and Mediterranean country, the Republic of Croatia is composed of several regional units. Every single natural and geographical unit is not specific only in terms of its general natural features, but also by its role in linking Croatia with the rest of the world. Additional peculiarity of these geographic units is their complementary value, which gives good prerequisites for successful economic development of the country. In Pannonian section of Croatia prevail natural features close to those in other Central-European countries. Namely, this section of Croatia participates in Danube catchment area, linking Croatia with the rest of Central Europe. Dinaric Alps are typical mountainous area; in north-western part of the range (i.e. in the region of Gorski Kotar) they are very narrow, making thus possible a comparatively easy communication between Pannonian part of Croatia and the Adriatic coast. Coastal region of Croatia — stretching along the most of (north)eastern coast of the Adriatic — is predominantly characterised by Mediterranean natural features. Due to its size and share in total area of the country, territorial waters of the Adriatic sea can be accepted as the fourth natural and geographic unit of Croatia.

Kljucne rijeci: zaravan u krsu, geomorfolosko kartiranje, morfometrija, Slunjska zaravan, Dinarski krs, Hrvatska Geomorphological Characteristics of the Slunj Karst Plateau The research goal has been to determine the basic conditions and processes of the relief formation and development, and to define its general geomorphologic characteristics on the area of the Slunj karst plateau, as an example of spacious plateaus of the Dinaric karst. Since geomorphological mapping is one of the most important methods of geomorphological research, the aim of this work was detail mapping and production of a digital geomorphologic map of the area. As the basis of the given data, geomorphologic analyses and synthesis were worked out and a detailed geomorphologic map to the scale 1:50,000 was made. The dominant morphogenetic processes of the relief formation (structuralmorphologic and exogeomorphologic) were distinguished, and basic stages of the relief geomorphologic evolution were determined.
