Hand radiographs preprocessing, image representation in the finger regions and joint space width measurements for image interpretation

Andrzej Bielecki; Mariusz Korkosz; Bartosz Zieliński

In this paper, the first stage of studies concerning the computer analysis of hand X-ray digital images is described. The images are preprocessed and then skeletization of the fingers is carried out. Then, the interphapangeal and metacarpophalangeal joints are detected and contoured. Joint widths are also measured. The obtained results largely concur with those obtained by other authors-see Beier et al. [Segmentation of medical images combining local, regional, global, and hierarchical distances into a bottom-up region merging scheme, Proc. SPIE 5747 (2005) 546-555], Klooster et al. Wind turbines states classification by a fuzzy-ART neural network with a stereographic projection as a signal normalization

Tomasz Barszcz; Marzena Bielecka; Andrzej Bielecki; Mateusz Wójcik

In this paper wind turbines operational states classification is considered. The fuzzy-ART neural network is proposed as a classifying system. Applying of stereographic projection as an input signals normalization procedure is introduced. Both theoretical justification is discussed and results of experiments are presented. It turns out that the introduced normalization procedure improves classification results.

Application of shape description methodology to hand radiographs interpretation

Marzena Bielecka; Andrzej Bielecki; Mariusz Korkosz; Marek Skomorowski; Wadim Wojciechowski; Bartosz Zieliński

In this paper, a shape description methodology, introduced by Jakubowski [6] is applied to hand radiographs interpretation, in order to recognize bones borders shapes in the fingers regions. It is shown that the classical approach can be used only for preliminary analysis. Therefore, the improved method, based on fuzzy approach, is considered.

Recognition of two-dimensional representation of urban environment for autonomous flying agents

Andrzej Bielecki; Tomasz Buratowski; Piotr Migielski

In this paper the problem of a vision system implementation for autonomous flying agents is considered in the context of industrial inspection tasks performed by unmanned aerial vehicles. A syntactic algorithm of a two-dimensional object vectorization and recognition is proposed. An algorithm of two-dimensional map recognition has been introduced as well. The algorithms have been tested by using both artificial data and real data - the satellite image. They have turned out to be effective.

ART-2 Artificial Neural Networks Applications for Classification of Vibration Signals and Operational States of Wind Turbines for Intelligent Monitoring

Tomasz Barszcz; Andrzej Bielecki; Mateusz Wójcik; Marzena Bielecka

In recent years wind energy is the fastest growing branch of the power generation industry. The largest cost for the wind turbine is its maintenance. A common technique to decrease this cost is a remote monitoring based on vibration analysis. Growing number of monitored turbines requires an automated way of support for diagnostic experts. As full fault detection and identification is still a very challenging task, it is necessary to prepare an “early warning” tool, which would focus the attention on cases which are potentially dangerous.

Identifying the borders of the upper and lower metacarpophalangeal joint surfaces on hand radiographs

Andrzej Bielecki; Mariusz Korkosz; Wadim Wojciechowski; Bartosz Zieliński

In this paper, the next stage of out studies concerning the computer analysis of hand X-ray digital images is described. An algorithm identifying the borders of the upper and lower joint surfaces on hand radiographs is proposed. It is based on local segmentation and profile plots analysis. The described algorithm achieved high efficiency -mean distance distribution signature for complete borders was equal to 0.118mm. Therefore, it can be applied both to trace development of hand joints diseases and analysis of bone contour shapes using syntactic methods.

Modified jakubowski shape transducer for detecting osteophytes and erosions in finger joints

Marzena Bielecka; Andrzej Bielecki; Mariusz Korkosz; Marek Skomorowski; Wadim Wojciechowski; Bartosz Zieliński

In this paper, a syntactic method of pattern recognition is applied to hand radiographs interpretation, in order to recognize erosions and osteophytes in the finger joints. It is shown that, the classical Jakubowski transducer does not distinguish contours of healthy bones from contours of affected bones. Therefore, the modifications of the transducer are introduced. It is demonstrated, that the modified transducer correctly recognizes the classes of bone shapes obtained based on the medical classification: healthy bone class, erosion bone class and osteophyte bone class.

Syntactic algorithm of two-dimensional scene analysis for unmanned flying vehicles

Andrzej Bielecki; Tomasz Buratowski; Piotr Śmigielski

In this paper the approach to on-line object recognition for autonomous flying agent is considered. The method is divided into two parts. First the algorithm for scene objects vectorization is introduced. As the second step of the overall method we present the rotation and scale invariant algorithm for vectorized object identification based on syntactic language.

Compartment model of neuropeptide synaptic transport with impulse control

Andrzej Bielecki; Piotr Kalita; Marian H. Lewandowski; Marek Skomorowski

In this paper a mathematical description of a presynaptic episode of slow synaptic neuropeptide transport is proposed. Two interrelated mathematical models, one based on a system of reaction diffusion partial differential equations and another one, a compartment type, based on a system of ordinary differential equations (ODE) are formulated. Processes of inflow, calcium triggered activation, diffusion and release of neuropeptide from large dense core vesicles (LDCV) as well as inflow and diffusion of ionic calcium are represented. The models assume the space constraints on the motion of inactive LDCVs and free diffusion of activated ones and ions of calcium. Numerical simulations for the ODE model are presented as well. Additionally, an electronic circuit, reflecting the functional properties of the mathematically modelled presynaptic slow transport processes, is introduced.

Mental Organization According to the Metabolism of Information Model and its Mathematical Description

Andrzej Kokoszka; Andrzej Bielecki; Paweł Holas

This paper outlines the concept of information metabolism, based on the structural organization of the biological cell. It was considered a model of states of consciousness (Kokoszka, 1993b) and human experiences (Kokoszka, 1999) reported earlier. The improved version of the graphical model is presented along with its preliminary description in the terms of dynamic systems. The possible application of the model to the design of artificial networks and into psychotherapeutic diagnosis discussed.
