Społeczny wymiar innowacji

Celem artykulu jest zwrocenie uwagi na spoleczny charakter innowacji i innowacyjności. Wskazano na cztery aspekty „wyplukiwania” spolecznego sensu innowacji dostrzegalne w politykach i dyskursie publicznym: 1) koncentracje na innowacjach technologicznych, 2) zwracanie uwagi na transfer wiedzy skodyfi kowanej, 3) akcentowanie roli podazowej strony innowacji oraz 4) brak wystarczającego uznania innowacyjnego potencjalu nauk spolecznych. W opozycji do tych uproszczen przedstawiono argumenty podkreślające: 1) role konsekwencji innowacji technologicznych oraz idee innowacji spolecznej (social innovation), 2) znaczenie niesformalizowanych i warunkowanych kulturowo mechanizmow powstawania wiedzy i innowacji, 3) role strony popytowej w powstawaniu innowacji oraz 4) przyklady innowacji oparte na wiedzy z zakresu nauk spolecznych. Zdaniem autorow, dostrzezenie tych spolecznych wymiarow innowacji jest warunkiem skuteczności polityk nastawionych na ich wspieranie.

How do parking practices structure urban territorial communities

Abstract In this article we analyse the socio-spatial contexts and consequences of the practice of car parking in housing estates. Fredrik Barth’s idea of socially constructed boundaries and the theory of social practice form the theoretical basis of our analysis. The empirical material comes from research conducted in 2016 and 2017 in three Polish cities. We analyse the practice of parking in terms of the specific aspect of mobility that is ‘mooring’. The research shows that parking practices influence the structuring of territorial communities in housing estates on two levels: everyday activities, norms and rules, as well as social differences and boundaries in the space occupied by the housing estate.

Not Only Individualism: The Effects of Long-Term Orientation and Other Cultural Variables on National Innovation Success

This article re-examines the effects of culture on national innovation rates. Pointing to the innovation success of some East Asian countries, it argues that the cultural dimension of individualism is not able to fully account for the role of culture in national innovativeness, and there is a need to include a wider set of cultural factors in the analysis. Several competing measures of national innovation performance over the last decade and Hofstede’s measures of culture, as well as their recently revised versions proposed by Minkov and collaborators, are employed to test the hypotheses. The findings show that, apart from individualism, long-term orientation, and flexibility, the dimensions omitted in the prior studies are positive and strong cultural predictors of national innovation intensity, whereas the role of other cultural factors finds little empirical support. The study suggests that there is no single pattern for the impact of culture on national innovation rates that should be taken into account in seeking effective innovation strategies and policies. It also highlights the need to advance the understanding of the causal mechanism between culture and innovativeness to guide further theoretical and empirical analysis.

Kultura, instytucje, władza: ciągłość i zmiana porządku instytucjonalnego

W niniejszym artykule chcę wykazać przydatność wybranych kategorii kulturowych do analizy konfl iktów międzygrupowych o podłożu instytucjonalnym i związanego z nimi zjawiska władzy jako jednego ze sposobów ich rozwiązywania. Zastosowanie kategorii kulturowych w analizie zjawisk władzy i konfl iktu pozwala lepiej zrozumieć mechanizmy ciągłości i zmiany porządku instytucjonalnego. Z kolei zjawiska władzy, konfl iktu, przemocy lepiej uwypuklają zbiorowy, a więc kulturowy charakter napięć tkwiących w porządku instytucjonalnym.
