The Reliability and Safety of Railway Control Systems Based on New Information Technologies

Andrzej Lewiński; Tomasz Perzyński

The paper contains the safety analysis of the new generation of railway control systems designed with respect to new technologies: microcomputers connected via cable and wireless transmission networks. In the paper the THR and global safety criteria are introduced to designed, tested and exploited railway control systems. For one of the systems the verification of safety parameters was possible in the form of both forecasting estimation and exploitation result. The authors presented in the paper one of the methods of forecasting estimation of control and management railway systems.

The Analysis of Open Transmission Standards in Railway Control and Management

Andrzej Lewiński; Tomasz Perzyński; Andrzej Toruń

The paper deals with problems of delays, queues, interferences and interrupts in open radio transmission standards (GPS, GSM-R) applied in railway control and management systems including Advanced Train Control/Protection\. These systems apply the wireless networks transmitting the signal between different dissipated objects and safety transmission standards require such time related analysis based on mathematical methods (Markov processes).

Risk Analysis as a Basic Method of Safety Transmission System Certification

Andrzej Lewiński; Andrzej Toruń; Tomasz Perzyński

The implementation of the open transmission standards to railway control systems requires the estimation of Tolerable Hazard Rate corresponding to EU standards. The transmission channel must satisfy the obligatory measures related to the assigned SIL level. Both cable and wireless transmission standards must be analysed corresponding to hardware failure rates in railway control devices. The paper deals with failure analysis in some railway control systems including open transmission solutions. The result based on FTA methods is a good criterion for the introduction of new transmission technologies.

The Changeable Block Distance System Analysis

Andrzej Lewiński; Andrzej Toruń

The paper treats about efficiency analysis in Changeable Block Distance (CBD) System connected with wireless positioning and control of train. The analysis is based on modeling of typical ERTMS line and comparison with actual and future traffic. The calculations are related to assumed parameters of railway traffic corresponding to real time – table of distance Psary – Gora Wlodowska from CMK line equipped in classic, ETCS Level 1 and ETCS with CBD systems.

Additional Warning System for Cross Level

Andrzej Lewiński; Lucyna Bester

The paper contains an analysis of the safety level crossing equipped with an additional warning system for drivers that are within the level crossing before the approaching train. The proposed system is based on wireless data standard, WiMax and sensor networks WSN, placed an additional warning helps to improve safety at unguarded railway crossings. Mathematical analysis was carried out for unguarded level crossing model, and then for system with signaling the level crossing ssp and for system equipped with additional warning system for drivers. For the analysis presented models used stochastic Markov processes which allowed estimating the indicators of probabilistic studied systems.

Safety Analysis of Accidents Call System Especially Related to In-Land Water Transport Based on New Telematic Solutions

Tomasz Perzyński; Andrzej Lewiński; Zbigniew Łukasik

In the paper the analysis of e-call system informing about accidents in land transport with application of public standards GSM and GPS is shown. Based on Markov processes the two models are introduced: reliability model for hardware and behavioral model describing man-system co-operation (including level of equipment and environmental conditions together with weather). The reliability and maintenance parameters correspond to typical reliability characteristics of GPS/GSM devices and time characteristics related to service, monitoring and management of critical events using such devices. Presented results (probabilistic and time) may be also adapted to another applications such mountain tourism and extreme sports, but even in railway transport with GPS positioning in the regional lines (without typical centralized railway control infrastructure).

The Analysis of Transmission Parameters in Railway Cross Level Protection Systems with Additional Warning of Car Drivers

Andrzej Lewiński; Lucyna Bester

The paper deals with problems of time parameters (delays, queues) in Additional Warning System of unguarded cross level systems., The open radio transmission standards (WiFi, WiMax, WSN.) applied in AWS system is analyzed with respect to queues and delays based on mathematical methods (Markov processes). These systems apply the wireless networks transmitting the signal between different dissipated objects and safety transmission standards require such t analysis corresponding to requirements defined in obligatory UE standards.

Efficiency Analysis of Train Monitoring System Applying the Changeable Block Distance Method

Andrzej Toruń; Andrzej Lewiński

The paper deals with efficiency analysis of railway line equipped with Changeable Block Distance Method (CDB) applying the different positioning methods (balises, GPS) and radio transmission (GSM-R) to the Dispatcher Centre with accordance to traditional Fixed Block Method (FDB) of train sequence control using insulated rail sections. For estimation the needs of such solution the Mass Service Model (based on Markov processes) has been elaborated to show which train traffic parameters assure the efficiency the CDB. The simulation model has been also presented to show how the queue of trains may be successfully unloaded in the stations using CDB method in comparison to FDB method. Both models require train traffic parameters related to real routes (sequence of several insulated rail sections with boundary stations) corresponding to typical time table including the different types of trains (truck, passenger and express trains).

The Safety Related Software for Railway Control with Respect to Automatic Level Crossing Signaling System

Andrzej Lewiński; Katarzyna Trzaska–Rycaj

The paper deals with design problems of correct and high reliable software for railway traffic control systems. The correct software (corresponding to formal or semi-formal criteria) has an important part in safety related (SIL4) railway control systems. The paper treats about actual state of art in design of safety related software for railway application. The proposed methods, recommended by CENELEC and UIC are introduced to example of automatic level crossing signaling system.

New Telematic Solutions for Improving Safety in Inland Navigation

Tomasz Perzyński; Andrzej Lewiński

The article presents practical applications of telematics in improving safety of transport in inland waterway. Presented in the paper new telematic solutions, autonomous system of information about the event on the waters as well as mobile application, enable emergency services to react quickly. This is important particularly in situation where human life is in danger. For the solutions presented in the work it has been proposed a mathematical analysis on the basis of Markov processes.
