Safety algorithms for excavator engine control

Rafal Klaus; Andrzej Urbaniak

The diesel engine without load and speed controller is a nonlinear astatic object. The torque and moment of internal friction (the diesel engine without load and governor) cross in the field of the engines destruction (the speed limit was exceeded). Hence, the diesel engine is equipped with a speed governor. The main task of the governor is to counteract exceeding of the speed limit. We did a research on the engine with an injection pump wherein the conventional centrifugal governor was replaced by the microprocessor controller. This is because using a large number of electronic elements microcontroller has smaller reliability in comparison with mechanical governors. In order to protect the engine from the results of the controllers defect, we invented a safety system. The system guarantees the controlled stoppage of the engines work in dangerous states. Information in this article are presented concerning protection and self-diagnostics of SW 400 engine control system that makes use of DP535 controller with Siemens 80C535 microcontroller. The presented control system is successfully tested in an excavator.

Fuzzy Control System of Diesel Engine - Example Problems of Architectures

Rafal Klaus; Andrzej Urbaniak

Abstract At present stage of internal combustion engines development the mechanical speed governors are more frequently replaced with governors allowing digital control of Diesel engine operation. In the paper there are presented the requirements imposed on the electronics controller of Diesel engine. There are also presented some chosen results obtained for Diesel engine investigations, controlled by the digital controller with different control rules while working in steady state conditions and transient conditions.

EDUCATION IN CONTROL ENGINEERING FOR THE DESIGNERS OF ENVIRONMENTAL PROCESSES

Eugeniusz M. Sroczan; Andrzej Urbaniak

Abstract The problem of education in control engineering requires simultaneous considering of technology of the given process and methods of realisation of a control system. This paper tackles about the influences of methodology of the selection of the technology and control systems used in the environmental engineering, in particular for the waste water treatment The steps of design of the control system are specified in accordance with the demands of the environment protection and applied technology.

Safety in a Microcomputer Controller of the Diesel Engine

Rafal Klaus; Andrzej Urbaniak

Abstract Redundancy techniques and self-diagnostics while making use of mechatronics contribute to enlargement of safety and dependability in the Diesel engines. The paper shows a systematic way of safety requirements definition based on formalized model of fault trees. Some of the aspects of redundancy’s implementation in electronic controllers of the Diesel engines have been presented in this article. The demonstrated system was implemented in excavator.

Computer and Control Sciences – Education and Practice in the Field of Environment Protection in Developing Countries 1

Eugeniusz M. Sroczan; Andrzej Urbaniak

Abstract An analysis of a transfer mechanism of knowledge from university to professional activities is considered from three important points of view. First one is the educational process with its curricula and education technics. There are the necessary range of the computer and control sciences analyzed in this subject. Second one is the information system, its features, disturbances and conditions for the best transfer. Third part consists of the practice activities with its possibilities to introducing innovations, climate for new solutions implementation and competencies for team collaboration. There are important factors of these processes discussed in the paper.

Ultrasonic Flow Measure for Water and Wastewater Using Open Channel Weir

Eugeniusz M. Sroczan; Andrzej Urbaniak

Abstract The intelligent measurement systems are usually based on the microcomputer circuit. The hardware and software allow to realize various conversions of characteristics and their fast calculations. A method of flow measuring based on ultrasonic devices and on the given known characteristic of open channel weir is presented in the paper. The way of obtaining of characteristics, which is convenient to use in the industrial control systems is presented. Three main approaches are analyzed the modelling of weir characteristic, the discrete modelling and the calculations on–line. The negative influences of outside factors which can affect the measuring are discussed.
