Building legal ontologies with METHONTOLOGY and WebODE

Oscar Corcho; Mariano Fernández-López; Asunción Gómez-Pérez; Angel López-Cima

This paper presents how to build an ontology in the legal domain following the ontology development methodology METHONTOLOGY and using the ontology engineering workbench WebODE. Both of them have been widely used to develop ontologies in many other domains. The ontology used to illustrate this paper has been extracted from an existing class taxonomy proposed by Breuker, and adapted to the Spanish legal domain.

ODESeW: automatic generation of knowledge portals for intranets and extranets

Oscar Corcho; Asunción Gómez-Pérez; Angel López-Cima; V. López-García; María del Carmen Suárez-Figueroa

This paper presents ODESeW (Semantic Web Portal based on WebODE platform [1]) as an ontology-based application that automatically generates and manages a knowledge portal for Intranets and Extranets. ODESeW is designed on the top of WebODE ontology engineering platform. This paper shows the service architecture that allows configuring the visualization of ontology-based information for different kinds of users, establishing reading and updating access policies to its content, and performing consistency checking between the portal information and the ontologies underlying it.

A platform for the development of semantic web portals

Oscar Corcho; Angel López-Cima; Asunción Gómez-Pérez

A Semantic Web portal is a Web application that offers information and services related to a specific domain, and that has been developed with Semantic Web technology. For the time being, the main difference with respect to a traditional Web portal is based on technological aspects: traditional Web portals are based on standard Web technology (HTML, XML, servlets, JSPs, etc.); semantic portals are based on that technology plus the use of Semantic Web languages like RDF, RDF Schema and OWL. This paper describes a unifying architecture for both types of portals, based on the MVC paradigm, which is implemented in the ODESeW framework. ODESeW has been used successfully in the development of a set of portals for the management of European R&D projects and for the management of research groups.

The ODESeW 2.0 semantic web application framework

Oscar Corcho; Angel López-Cima; Asunción Gómez-Pérez

We describe the architecture of the ODESeW 2.0 Semantic Web application development platform, which has been used to generate the internal and external Web sites of several R&D projects.

The ODESeW platform as a tool for managing EU projects: the knowledge web case study

Asunción Gómez-Pérez; Angel López-Cima; M. Carmen Suárez-Figueroa; Oscar Corcho

ODESeW allows developing ontology-based Web portals. It provides functionalities to edit and browse information, taking into account access privileges, and to update automatically changes carried out on the underlying ontologies. In this paper, we describe the ontologies used in a specific deployment of the ODESeW platform, oriented to the management of EU R&D projects. We also present the functions offered in this specific deployment, giving as an example the EU Knowledge Web Network of Excellence portal.

ODEWiki: a semantic wiki that interoperates with the ODESeW semantic portal

Adrián Siles; Angel López-Cima; Oscar Corcho; Asunción Gómez-Pérez

We present ODEWiki, a technology for the development of Semantic Wikis, which has a combined set of added-value features over other existing semantic wikis in the state of the art. Namely, ODEWiki interoperates with an existing semantic portal technology (ODESeW), it manages inconsistencies raised because of the distributed nature of knowledge base development and maintenance, it uses RDFa for the annotation of the resulting wiki pages, it follows a WYSIWYG approach, and it allows decoupling wiki pages and ontology instances, that is, a wiki page may contain one or several ontology instances. Although some of these features appear in some of the state-of-the-art semantic wikis, but they are not combined together in a single solution.
