The investigation of oil palm ash microwave absorbers involves the design, simulation and fabrication of an effective broadband frequency for anechoic chamber. The resistive and magnetic materials in the oil palm ash compose its potential to be used as microwave absorbing materials. These oil palm ash absorbers are simulated using CST Microwave Studio. The arch measurement is executed to investigate the reflectivity performance of the oil palm ash absorbers. These absorbers are designed to operate effectively between the frequencies of 8 GHz and 12 GHz for broadband application.

Communication is one of human basic necessity. People with disabilities usually use sign language to communicate with others. The study identifies the alphabet letters from the finger spelling based on American Sign Language (ASL) standard. The bending sensors were attached to three fingers of spelling glove where the bending movement of each finger contributes different resistance value of the bending sensors. The combinations of resistance value from each finger were detected from microcontrollers library and alphabet letters will be displayed. This study assists normal person who are new to sign language to understand the spelling letters when communicate with the disabilities.

High value assets loss due to theft can be reduced if the attempt to remove the asset is detected at once. This paper study the design of anti-theft system based on RFID technology. The RFID tag that attaches to an object is integrated with motion sensor. The interrupt function is utilized to the tag to automatically detect motion of an object. The real-time notification of theft is realized using multi-communication principle between a tag and a reader. The anti-theft system proposed here was tested for motion detection efficiency and RF communication performance in multi-floored building to verify its reliability.

In this paper, an adjustable angle sensor based on rotary potentiometer for measuring and monitoring finger flexion is proposed. Most of the current system is unadjustable, inaccurate, costly and hard to calibrate. The proposed system in this study consists of a rotary potentiometers and adjustable case, which makes it adjustable, compact and lightweight with the ability to produce a better measurement result. As the rotary potentiometer rotated due to the motion of the finger, the joint angles are calculated by measuring the change in resistance of the rotary potentiometer. The proposed system can widely be applied for the angle measurement systems at small and complex structure surface such as finger joint, which require to measure finger flexion for developing related device such as robotic hand control system, virtual reality or teleoperation systems. The experiment study shows that the proposed system is adjustable and has better accuracy, small repeatability error and more reliable compared to the popular flex sensor.

This paper investigates the capacitance regression modelling performance of latex for various rubber tree clones, namely clone 2002, 2008, 2014 and 3001. Conventionally, the rubber tree clones identification are based on observation towards tree features such as shape of leaf, trunk, branching habit and pattern of seeds texture. The former method requires expert persons and very time-consuming. Currently, there is no sensing device based on electrical properties that can be employed to measure different clones from latex samples. Hence, with a hypothesis that the dielectric constant of each clone varies, this paper discusses the development of a capacitance sensor via Capacitance Comparison Bridge (known as capacitance sensor) to measure an output voltage of different latex samples. The proposed sensor is initially tested with 30ml of latex sample prior to gradually addition of dilution water. The output voltage and capacitance obtained from the test are recorded and analyzed using Simple Linear Regression (SLR) model. This work outcome infers that latex clone of 2002 has produced the highest and reliable linear regression line with determination coefficient of 91.24%. In addition, the study also found that the capacitive elements in latex samples deteriorate if it is diluted with higher volume of water.

A virtual laboratory experiment has gradually growing on demand as preferable technical exposure method in many universities. This is due to time, facilities, cost and location limitation. This study focuses on the architecture, performance and effectiveness of a web-based laboratory in assisting students to relate theoretical knowledge learnt during lecture session with real application. With the capabilities of Laboratory Virtual Instrument Engineering Workbench (LabVIEW) and the Data Acquisition (DAQ) card, the measurement of the actual hardware in the laboratory is obtained and published through the web.

Inefficient water usage during irrigation scheduling is a common crisis in agricultural sector. This crisis mostly occurs in time-controlled irrigation systems where timer will still turn on the sprinkler even on raining day. This research is proposed to overcome the mentioned crisis where the sprinkler is controlled by soil moisture sensor. In addition, this intelligence irrigation system also incorporated solar Photovoltaic (PV) and Laboratory Virtual Instrumentation Engineering Workbench (LabVIEW) software. Consequently, the system can operate independently and the performance of the irrigation system can be monitored remotely.

Image processing has been gradually growing on demand as a technique for evaluating and analyzing the gradation of fabric wrinkle. In this work, 150 samples of the Wrinkle Recovery Replica was captured digitally, processed and statistically analyzed to produce respective ranking index based on the ratio of black and white pixel elements, firstly introduced as Wrinkle Pixel Index (WPIhz). There are five classes of fabric wrinkle gradation generated (WPIhz-1, WPIhz-2,WPIhz-3,WPIhz-4 and WPIhz-5) which are based on group clustering of the acquired measured indices during image processing. In this experiment, the scope is limited to produce wrinkle index representing only for one tone color of wrinkled fabric samples. Finally, validation is done by comparing the experimental results with the ones that were already being classified by an expert observer prior before doing the image processing. The outcome has shown that this novice technique has achieved similarity result of 86.67% with the experts classification.
