Abstract The scaled factorial moments, F q and fractal moments, G q have been measured and their power law variation as a function of size of the pseudorapidity interval has been studied in the central region of the pseudorapidity distribution of the produced charged particles in quasi-central and central collisions of 16 O + Ag Br at 2.1 GeV c per nucleon and 24 Mg + Ag Br at 4.5 GeV c per nucleon. The smooth spectral function f ( α q ), characterizing the fluctuation in the pseudorapidity distribution and the generalised dimensions D q have been derived from G q moments. The analyses reveal a self-similarity in multiparticle production in nucleus-nucleus interactions at an incident momentum of a few GeV/ c per nucleon. Interesting observations can be very effective in establishing multifractality in multiparticle production at this energy range.

Abstract This paper presents exhaustive, new data on the shower and compound multiplicity charactersties of 24 Mg-emulsion and 12 C-emulsion interactions at incident momentum of 4.5 GeV/ c per nucleon. A comparative study is made (whenever possible) with p-emulsion interaction data at the same incident momentum per nucleon. The linear dependences of different multplicities on shower and compound multiplicity, e.g., 〈 n i 〉 = a ij + k ij n j -( i ≠ j ), are also shown in this paper.

Abstract This letter presents new data on the multiplicity distribution of charged secondaries in 24 Mg interactions with AgBr at 4.5 GeV/ c per nucleon. The validity of the negative binomial distribution (NBD) is studied. It is observed that the data can be well parametrized in terms of the NBD law for the whole phase space and also for different pseudo-rapidity bins. A comparison of different parameters with those in the case of h-h interactions reveals some interesting results, the implications of which are discussed.

This paper reports a study on the coherent production of pions in central 24Mg-AgBr collisions at 4.5 GeV/c per nucleon. The analysis is based on a comparison of experimental multiplicity distribution in different pseudo rapidity bins with Poissonic distributions. It has been observed that pion multiplicity is Poissonian in some specific zone. The physical implication is also discussed.

Abstract The present work deals with an extensive study of two- and three-particle pseudo-rapidity correlation among the shower particles in central 24 MgAgBr interactions at 4.5 GeV/ c per nucleon, and comparison with 12 CAgBr data at the same incident momentum per nucleon. The experimental data have been used as input for a Monte Carlo simulation to look for “true dynamical” correlation in each case. The correlation effect has been observed to depend interestingly on the size of the projectile. The detailed observation is reported and the implications are discussed.

This letter reports an analysis of our own emulsion data in terms of charged particle pseudorapidity distribution in the cases of 12C-Ag/Br, 24Mg-Ag/Br at 4.5 A GeV/c, and 16O-Ag/Br at 2.1 A GeV. The data are compared with the analyses using two scaling variables recently proposed by Kenju Mori et al. and Nakamura and Kudo. In all cases the data show a remarkable agreement with the scaling behavior of Nakamura and Kudo. The data obtained for 16O + AgBr interactions at 14.6 A GeV, 60 A GeV, and 200 A GeV are also in favor of the Nakamura-Kudo scaling.

The paper presents new data on azimuthal correlations in angles between different types of secondary charged particles emitted in inelastic interactions between 24Mg nuclei with the AgBr nuclei of nuclear emulsion. Azimuthal correlations are observed in some cases of intergroup correlations, and an asymmetry is found to exist in the emission of the same type of particles. The present data is compared in some cases, with those of p-emulsion, d-emulsion, α-emulsion and 12C-emulsion interactions at 4.5 A GeV/c and 84Kr-emulsion interaction at 1.4 A GeV.

This paper reports an interesting methodology to study ‘side splash’ phenomenon in the central24Mg-AgBr interactions at 4.5 GeV/c per nucleon. This method is based on the study of coherence of the knocked out target protons by comparing the binwise multiplicity distribution with Poissonic distribution. An indication of “side splash” was observed.
